This series gives me a lot of old school vibe. Three cour adaptation also confirmed so expecting a lot from this but so far, it's doing quite well.
The manga has over 300+ chapters.
One thing I really enjoy watching from this series is the chemistry between Ushio and Tora. It has good comedy and portrays an unique relationship between a human and beast.

This show has been a good replacement for JoJo for me as far as raw energy is concernend. Really enjoying it so far and the 90s feel is rather nostalgic.

As far as the first few episodes go, they recreate almost 1:1 the corresponding OVA episodes, so I can't help but think, at times, that I'm rewatching the OVAs.

Ok, but….seriously, Ushio and Tora was also supposed to be primarily a comedy? Really? Ok sure it’s a bit more pronounced in the anime but in the manga I honestly thought the creator didn’t really give a crap about humor and only put in the most predictable jokes possible to help make his series more commercially profitable while the real reason to read was for monster hack and slashing. Every time I hear this series be called “gut-busting” or “insanely funny” I always have to raise a brow.
That isn't to say I can't find any enjoyment in this series, it's a good reliable source for mild entertainment but as far as being this sort of "hilarious must-watch" show of the season... I just don't see it. and this is coming from a guy who was perfectly fine with watching things like Slayers and Trigun.

I personally thought the manga was hilarious. Normally I would just chalk it up to us having different taste - but I really enjoyed Slayers and Trigun.
Anyways, I still need to watch the new show. Crunchy, here I come.

The original OVAs are largely responsible for getting me into anime, so I was understandably stoked when I heard about this new adaptation. So far, I think the TV series has consistently nailed it. It's a lot more slapstick-heavy than the original, but I'm totally cool with that.

It's hard to imagine anyone NOT being pumped after hearing that theme song.

Didn't know this show was primarily 90's until like just nownow. It's interesting that older shows are just now in the last couple of years being dusted off and made into anime or being remade from ova's.

I don't want to be the nitpicker, but the family's temple, judging by the structure of the buildings, the father's attire, and most importantly, the get up of the original Aotsuki patriarch shown in the family history from ep. 3 make it very obvious this is a Buddhist temple.
*granted the distinctions between one and another aren't that clear cut some times, but I think this one is very evident.

I am loving this show.
It's kind of a throwback, and the only way they could make it any more retro would be if they broadcast it in 4:3 aspect ratio.
It's somewhat reminiscent of the stuff that got me into anime in the first place, and it's really well done.
The character dynamic between the two main characters is really well played, that kind of begrudging respect from Tora for Ushio, it works pretty well.

umm... the origin is the manga which the OVAs were based on which started in 1990.
and, yes, that's a Buddhist temple, not a Shinto one as CrowLia mentions.

And if it was Shinto, it would be a shrine, not a temple. Instantly recognizable by the torii gates.

I'm liking this show so far; each episode has been better than the last, and I hope it maintains this level of quality. Not quite A level for me, yet, but still good.
