This is, unfortunately, a freemium game. I would love to play a Pokémon-themed picross game too, but I fear they'll charge players through the nose and completely lock most of the game behind paid content.

I like the games where you get a trickle of points/coins/whatever and you pay simply to get through them faster. I have the patience to put up with those.

Given the way it was introduced, it seems that this game will be akin to the F2P/F2S* Rumble game already available.

The game has two currencies: Coins (which you get through the game) and Diamonds (which you can get through a variety of ways). Unless you're streetpassing a ton of people, even with all of the free ways to get Diamonds in the game, you're going to run out before you've bought all of the balloons, which means you won't be able to get all of the pokemon. And that's not counting buying things such as the Wobbly Trees, which increase your ability to catch them (all of which take Diamonds), or being able to pick which island to go to (also costs Diamonds), or the other in-game things that cost them. However, there is a limit to the number of Diamonds you're allowed to buy. Once you reach that, it gives you a mine that gives you 20 free Diamonds per day, which should put you rolling in it.

This one will likely be similar. You can get so far, but you'll need some sort of points/currency to unlock further worlds (they said that there'd be 300, more than the number of puzzles in the Picross e games). You can get some from within the game, but if you don't have enough, you'll have to purchase them.

*Nintendo seems to be using the terms interchangeably, so one over the other is not an indication of anything
