D'oh! I liked The Cat Returns, the staff was cool when I met 'em in L.A., but I'd rather they got the rights to Whisper of the Wind first. Hope Totoro isn't held up in legal issues...Just hope they get the French dub for Porco Rosso. Or maybe Disney just wanted to release something more recent and more accessable to the West.

You know what would be funny? Just imagine, Disney releasing "Whisper of the Heart" in a few years and advertising it as a prequel to "A Cat Returns".
Anyway, I'm glad to see that the titles are back on track and I hope "My Neighbour Totoro" is released soon as well.

Grr...Hopefully, they won't call it "The Cat Returns 2" like Dimension. But yeah, Cat Returns can compete with the regular anime market a lot better than the usual Ghibli titles, since it follows the premise of a lot of anime-girl gets transported into a fantasy world-but doesn't take 100 episodes to finish it.

I agree about Whisper of the Heart (where did Wind come from?), but hopefully they will licence it soon.

That "something" is most likely "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind" .

Crap. I wanted Totoro.
Ah well, at least Nausicaa is still coming. Cat Returns was neat but it's no Totoro.

Whisper of the Heart was licensed long ago with the whole Disney-Tokuma deal. Today's quote from the Nausicaa ML:
Quote: |
The English "Whisper" dub is finished, nobody (outside of Disney) knows why it's not released/scheduled for release. I figure it'll just drop out of the blue just like today's announcement.
Brittany Snow is the voice of Shizuku.

Cat Returns proves Ghibli can compete with whatever trendy crap is coming out of AIC or Gainax. Let's just hope Disney keeps their word this time.

Forget all this, even though they all rock.
I want my uber-special edition release of Princess Mononoke. All we've got now is the crap bare-bones edition from Miramax that came out about 4 or 5 years ago. No Japanese track, no extras at all, and the English Dub (which I liked, for the record) was on one of the poorest Dolby5.1 tracks I've ever put into a home theater.
Make Mine Mononoke!

What I don't like about this batch of dvd's is that they are more expensive, a few years ago Spirited away, Castle in the sky, and Kiki's delivery service were $19.99, and now the new DVD are now 29.99.

I would have to agree with youon this. I absolutly adore Princess Mononoke, and despise the DvD that Miramax sent out. (The only extra was a talk with the voice actors, if I'm correct.) So at least they tried giving us somthing. But, Nausicaa is also another of my favorites, so I can't wait till it's released.

Part of me is glad they're setting aside Mimi wo Sumaseba if it'll get the others out faster because [blasphemy]I didn't really like it all that much. It was too saccharine for me, the same thing turned me off Castle of Cagliostro[/blasphemy]. I would much rather have some of the Takahata titles, especially Tonari no Yamada-kun.

Wait... whaaa? Are we talking about the same movie? Because my Miramax Mononoke DVD has the Japanese track right on there. Mayhaps you purchased a bootleg?

Or worse yet, maybe they were confusing it with "Warriors of the Wind", the horrible hack job that in part caused Ghibli to give the licensing to Disney.
