Looks like they think this might be a hit.

The cast looks impressive for the Japanese version of RWBY. It's bitterly sad that Monty Oum didn't live to see how well his show would fare in Japan. Sad

Dat art *A* God I wish they'd make a 2D animation of this with like... an actual budget.

Oh look, a new RWBY thread! *grabs a bag of popcorn and puts on a lead vest in preparation for the incoming wave of text-based cancer* I'm sure this thread will be full of calm, well thought-out discussion that totally won't devolve into inter-user flame wars and show-bashing!

Wouldn't that lead to a copyright problem? I mean, I want the 2D animation at the level of UFOTABLE animation just as much as you do.

While I'm not a fan of the show for several reasons, that's quite the VA lineup and it's cool that such an anime-inspired show has found a fanbase in Japan. It's too bad Monty Oum couldn't see his baby find its way to the country he clearly loved.

How is this series being distributed in Japan? Streaming, dvd only? Whatever the case, it's neat that this got enough traction to get a dub somewhere.

You want the 2D animation at the level of a studio that primarily specializes in 2D/3D hybrid animation? Confused

Anyway when you cast a blazing hot popular seiyuu like Saori Hayami who at this point is arguably the most popular female seiyuu in Japan as the lead in something that's like an automatic show of confidence.

Great lineup we have here. Smile

I hope to see Legend of Korra as the next western series to be released in Japan since I want to see what kind of cast that series will have for its Japanese dub.

I don't think it's ever getting a Japanese dub. Nickelodeon's Japanese branch closed down years ago, which is also the reason why the Japanese ATLA dub never aired.

Idk I'm guessing Rooster Teeth or Monty's estate or whoever owns the rights could work with the animation studio. I would love to see the RWBY characters and concept with a really nice animation budget and decent writing... it doesn't really matter if its a hybrid or 2D with some 3D effects I just want something that isn't entirely 3D like how the series is now. I still like the series, I just think the characters and concept is a lot stronger than how it was executed.

I love Asako Nishida's take on the characters in that Newtype article. She really captured the girls' personalities (especially in the eyes), and she did a great job making Yang and Ruby look like sisters.

Here's a link to a ~1800 x ~1200 shot of the spread.
