Hum...It's quite interesting. However, the chances one single person can have are quite smaller....hehe. And...One question. Did I understand well if just ONE person will have those rights?? Or can be a group? Because if there's just one price...Hum...Bah, nothing Very Happy

Am I the only one who finds this a little... well sad? I mean, paying someone money so that he inserts you into his manga...

Hmm, if you were a huge fan of a particular manga series, wouldn't you find it cool to be in the series?

Even if you wouldn't, I'm sure you can understand that many people would find it cool.

And people tend to be willing to pay money for what they find cool.

That's not exactly what I meant. I do undertand why someone would like to appear as a character in manga or anime (heck, I would love to appear in Lupin III manga Wink ), I just don't know if manga-ka should be charging people money for it. It's like he's taking advantage of his fans or something. I don't know.

If you didn't pay, he would simply have to choose you out of a crowd. By paying him, he woud probably get to know you better and be able to place your character much better that way.

After all, you really dont know someone until you see their spending habits. Laughing

Still, As much as I would love to be in a manga, I'll pass. Some people are just to boring to be put in the spotlight and I happen to think I am one of them.

Where did you hear that? xD...

Somehow, there're a lot of huge fans, even those who can buy some "unreleased" or imported stuff, for...let's say...five times it's original price. Pretty sure this will not be a failure. I guess it's a reward for all huge fans, appear in a anime story^^

You just know he's gonna end up being like "random guy number 5" or something. Now if they made me a Dragonball Z villain or something, then it'd be worth it. (Lots of screentime!)

Ok, been following it (more or less), and it actually finished. The winner, which it's identity it's not gonna be revealed by me, won paying the impressive and huge number of 20,018,001 yen(imagine why that 1 yen Very Happy), which are 150,000 €, and since most people here use USD, they're...cheking it...184,500 USD $.

That money would be enough for buying ALL that I want to buy at my local store, hehe.

To raise bids? Or have I misunderstood you?

Abusan hasn't been released in North America, and the sports genre isn't particularly popular yet. So american bids wouldn't have had much of an impact.

I think that of all sports anime/manga, Abusan probably has a very good chance of suceeding in North America though.

If I recall, the original article said that this was for an organization called Mangajapan -- nonprofit, from the sound of it.

Hrm... I don't really understand why they started OR ended this auction.

As for starting it, it seems dumb that there would be an auction for something like this. A sweepstakes seems to make more sense. If they wanted to raise money, maybe one in which you have to pay a dollar. With an auction, obviously the richest adult or spoiled kid is going to win. No one in their right mind would spend tons on money on something like that unless they were incredibly rich. It kind of takes the interest out of it for normal people.

And as for ending it, didn't they want the money? Or, did they not think the guy would actually be able to pay? I guess this goes along with the first question.

Yup! Of course this was done for money. Of course tons of people who's gonna read that manga can't pay that huge number. I got nothing agaisnt that. Instead of seing it as a "Discrimination to poorest fans and adventatges to the richer ones", I'd say "A chance for those who have enough money and they want to enter more into anime world".

By the way, as you may see, I just wrote that BEFORE the new was reported, hehe. Probably, the reporter was still sleeping, because my own sources shouldn't be better as ANN's.

Would create some good press if someone other than a Japanese won it.

Yeah, I wasn't really responding to your post. I was just responding to the first post in the list since none of the other comments had much to do with what I wanted to say. So, don't take any comments personally or anything... although I don't think I say anything personal... heh.
