I wonder how much PETA can be trusted...

It's very scary to me that PETA, an extreme organization that promotes (or at least condones) violence against thier opponents, is able to begin indoctrination with kids of the YuGiOh fan age.

NO! NOT THIS!
They said they would spite me, but I never thought it'd be through anime! ;_; *has had really bad run-ins with PETA in the past* This really scares me. PETA is radical, and this is only going to create eco-terrorists in the future (Save the trees and the fleas!) |

"Because Blue Eyes White Dragons have feelings, too!"
Yeah, somehow I actually see this hurting both parties in the long run. Yu-Gi-Oh! will be pegged as having some sort of "political agenda" behind it by associating with a radical activist group, while PeTA gets Yu-Gi-Oh!'s stigma of being a shameless commercial whore. |

In all fairness, while PETA is everything that ActivistCash says it is, ActivistCash is a corporate whore owned and operated by a "non-profit coalition supported by restaurants, food companies and consumers." Consumer Freedom is the libertarian equivalent of PETA in many ways. Their attempts to discredit various activist organizations are completely one-sided. For example, they attack the warning labels found on cigarettes because they may eventually lead to similar warning labels on food. Those labels don't limit anyone's right to chose, rather they help people make an informed decision (in an alrmist fashion). To their credit, they haven't been linked with any terrorist actions yet ;; Personally, I hate PETA (but that doesn't make the news article any less newsworthy, hense why it was posted) for being so extreme. But I figured I should point out that Consumer Freedom is hardly an unbiased agency for reporting on the activities of activist groups. -t Last edited by Tempest on Wed Sep 01, 2004 9:38 pm; edited 1 time in total |

True... You've got a point there, and I'm glad you posted the article...
but still, being on PETA's hit list is kinda scary (and I might as well be... long story.) |

I can feel the backlash swelling already. So much for wearing a Bebop shirt to school.

Yi-Gi-Oh! wasn't what I was think for the PETA, but Pokemon, that does sound alot better. Heck, they can give one of those really hard to get monsters like Mew and/or Celebi for the new Pokemon game. But, is it me or is the anime biz making some very odd bed fellows in the last year. *Images it and goes back to drinking.* Ohh the pain.

"People Eating Tasty Animals..."
I play Reborn the Monster to summon the Winged Dragon of Ra! He will send all of you slaughterhouse workers to the Shadow Realm! And my trap card will free the animals used for science testing! The only way this won't end up on The Tonight Show is if it's low-profile enough to fly under the radar...I almost had to check and see if it was April 1st or something... |

But, what of all those card monsters that get exploded and killed?!?
Yugi is a HYPOCRITE and shouldn't be trusted and yadda yadda I hardly see any need to get up in arms about this, even if it is PETA. It's not like they're endorsing the Yugioh characters to bomb animal testing facilities. Just to be "nice" to their animal buddies. |

I agree. Personally, I am shocked and a little disgusted that Viz would choose to side with such extremists. I intend to let Viz know of my displeasure with whom they have chosen to align themselve with. One of Anime's joys is that it is a relatively apolitical pastime. Unfortunately Viz offering support to these terrorist-supporters and their warped and unrealistic aims helps to erode this good aspect of the hobby.

(Note: I'm not saying that I'm not a total nutjob, just that I don't need any help in looking this way. ) |
