Mental Note: Defect to Canada if the US brings back the Draft due to the growing Anime choices on TV.

With the exception of a few hundred lucky Shaw Cable customers in one corner of Ontario that have The Anime Network, the only anime on TV in Canada is on YTV.

Right now they are airing Inu Yasha, Beyblade, Astro Boy, Duel Masters, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Hamtaro, Dragonball Dragonball Z and Dragonball GT.

Its not a bad quantity, actually, I think its more than Cartoon Network. But I'd take the shows on CN over these any day. Now with these new shows from Bandai, its much better...

But I'd still rather be an American cable subscriber...

This new development might lead me to watch anime on tv for the first time.

Well, I just ordered my final volume of WHR today, but it will be a good way to check out Gundam Seed. Are there many references to other Gundam series in Seed? I'm very much a Gundam noob. I only saw a few episodes of Wing a while back, so it's quite the intimidating group of series to start following.

Eh, I recognize that this is reasonably good news (though not as good as an announcement that the CRTC will stop interfering with Canadian viewers' freedom of choice and let us watch the American and foreign channels we're dying to see including CN and, in my case, Fox News) but I've rented Witch Hunter Robin and found it very "meh" (like the X-Files, but not the X-Files episodes I care about, like "Bad Blood") and I get the idea that Gundam SEED is much more like Gundam Wing (way too drawn out and very dull in places) than it is like the various great Gundam OVA series like Gundam 0080 (my favourite serious anime).

I'm still holding out hope that YTV would get Fruits Basket, since, apparently, FUNi would be interested in selling it to them. At least Pepperidge thinks so.

Am I the only person who found it odd that this was reported by a man named "Ricky Ricardo"?

Hmm, I suppose that sounds about right. I'll try and get confirmation on this first thing tomorrow morning, but this looks pretty legit to me.

Gundam SEED should do great, seeing as how most people who watch anime on TV have probably never seen a Gundam show before, but I'm a little worried about .hack//SIGN and Witch Hunter Robin. I really like both shows, but I hope that YTV isn't placing all of their chips on them being "the next big hits", because they really are slow paced and the only thing that could help them do better in Canada than in the US (where they did quite mediocre) is the fact that they don't really have much to compete with. Or who knows, maybe Canadians will appreciate them more? xD

I won't comment on SD Gundam Force, but as long as they don't air it in primetime, it's all good.

Still, four shows would be pretty sweet no matter how you break it down, and it's great to see non Canadian dubbed shows being acquired.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry about the fact that Teletoon totally dropped the ball on Gundam SEED.

Gundam SEED is long, but it's nowhere near as drawn out as Gundam Wing was, and IMHO, it completely pisses all over it. The storyline is much more solid, and the characterizations are actually believable. It sags a bit in the second quarter, but then quickly picks up again. I'd recommend at least checking it out.

I'm really dissapointed that there weren't any FUNimation announcements. One company at a time, I suppose. I just really, really hope we see FMA in Canada this year. I'm just happy they didn't get Rave Master.

Don't worry, SEED is a completely different continuity and has no relation to any other previous show. It's a great place for new viewers to start.

I just hope YTV is smart enough to avoid the CN version...

"Lackiss," "KuhGAWLee," & "Nickel" are quite the trio, yes. And of course "Muh-ROOOWE" and "Raow" are something of a rascally pair, too. Laughing

Eh, the editing's been light enough, but the dub's way of pronouncing many of the names still drives me up the wall. I'm amased they didn't start calling Andy "Uhn-dee" or Yzak "Why-zack." Of course, it'd be interesting to hear someone address Kira as "Kee RAW." Make him Egyptian. Rolling Eyes

I've seen WHR and it is definately slow at the start, but if you can manage through it like most anime watchers/lovers, whatever you wanna call them, do (for many series) it does start to pick up around eps 14 or so.

Gundam Seed wasn't bad, original version was good, haven't seen the CN version but from the looks of it, they did a bad job for the most part. (like most dubs...not all) First half is slower than the second, but it's worth the wait, starts picking up around eps 30.

SD...bad idea...haven't seen it but what where they thinking?

.hack//sign was good, seen original version again, hopefully they leave the music alone and the other things that make this series good without ruining it in the dub.

All this is based on the sub, not the dub versions, but I'll watch them, it's a nice break from subtitles and going back because you didn't read it fast enough.

And for the record...YTV is not the only station that plays anime. Teletoon still has Cardcaptors and Cardcaptors Movie 1...yeah it's not much but it's something. Hoping for the Movie 2 which has a dubbed version that was good according to ANN's review for it. Also Teletoon has Megaman NT Warrior. Besides Teletoon, FoxBox is also available in Canada, so that adds a few more to the list of anime that Canadians can watch.

Off topic, would love to have the ability to subscribe to CN and AN in Canada tho...they'd make so much money, I'd get it.

Well, I hear that the Anime Network is available to Rogers Digital Cable subscribers.

I'm chotto excited. I'll watch Gundam Seed & WHR, maybe SD Gundam maybe if my sisters are watching it.

I won't watch .hack//SIGN, since I think that if it was edited in any way, it would get even more needlessly confusing :b I love .hack though!!

.hack//SIGN won't be edited. What is there to edit?
