Excellent. Thank you, Geneon.
Now, if they can only get the whole thing with the DVD title sorted out. |

I thought this would happen, though to be honest, I think 'lil' slugger' does sound more appropriate for the English Version.

I think the premise of the anime is lame personally. I used to like Kon before he decided to copy Lain.

Well at least now those fans who were enraged about the change (for some reason) can stop complaining about it.

I think it's too early to start comparing "Paranoia Agent" to "Lain". Judging by his earlier works, Satoshi Kon has enough ideas of his own. I'm personally looking forward to this series. |

In what sense? I mean, isn't it basically slang for the same thing? |

There are no reasonable comparisons that you can draw between Lain and Paranoia Agent. You need to WATCH the shows you're bashing. |

Ok, Lain with a baseball theme.

I'm thinking a younger, edgier, "Rasta-fied by 10 percent" version of Strikeman (and, sometimes, Home Run Girl).

You can't make that comparison. PA really goes into deep character studies that few animes have ever done. I personally like PA better that lain. |

Won't they still use Little Slugger for the dub?

Heh. I haven't seen this comparison made before, but from this synopsis of the film Suicide Circle(eh, there's some moderately gory pictures at this link, so feel free to lock it if it's unacceptable), I'm thinking Seishi Minakami(scriptwriter) may have taken some inspiration from it. spoiler[Both Paranoia Agent and this film deal with people escaping from reality through pop culture or ad-hoc relief and mass copycat attempted/successful suicides proliferated by the media. There's a group of investigators in both trying to find the source of the chaos that have their lives completely rearranged by the case.] A character in the film even goes by the alias "the bat". I haven't actually seen the film, so this is just speculation, but the similarities seem undeniable.
Apparently, with the name change Geneon was going for irony in contrast to the foreboding of the character. It works, but it does slightly change the connotation of the original name. And if you're going to compare Paranoia Agent to an anime series, I'd say it's a little closer to Boogiepop Phantom. |

I actually like the Li'l Slugger name too. It makes sense to me. I mean, if the *American* media were to try'n come up with a name for such a serial attacker in the US, I could see Li'l Slugger being a possibility.
But Shounen Bat in the subs will keep purists happy too. I'm just not sure why they had to change the volume name -- Enter Li'l Slugger was a perfectly fine name, IMO (just make a reversible cover with "Shounen Bat" available for printout on the website). |
