Lets hope Kill la Kill can bring in some big ratings and get back the half-hour Toonami lost.

Of course it doesn't air in the first slot. Dammit. That garbage Attack on Titan aired there, Kill la Kill should absolutely lead off a block that is now suffering because of ratings.

I was hoping that Kill la Kill would replace Attack on Titan at the 11:30 PM time slot but 12:30 AM isn't so bad. I believe AoT is just reruns at this point, so I don't think it would hurt to move it to a later time slot.

Here's to hoping that Kill la Kill will bring in higher ratings for Toonami.

Haha, I think No Game, No Life is shitter than Attack On Titan while you think No Game, No Life is better than Attack On Titan.

That (Sorry!) does in no way excuse the personal attack. --willag

With grammar and spelling like that, am I supposed to take you seriously? Lol, guess not. (Sorry!)

As someone who never really understood the Kill la Kill hype, I'm actually happy it's not leading off the block. DBZ has more wide appeal anyway.

I think for the casuals, the reruns are a bigger issue than AoT terribleness(and yeah,Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse is a better show than it).

And for the record, NGNL was one of the best of its season and easily in the Top 10 best of 2014.

The series was originally slated to premiere at 11:30 p.m. on the same night, but Toonami's schedule changed after losing an hour of programming.

I don't understand, they lost the 5am slot, not the 11:30pm slot, why would loosing the hour effect the start time?

I can kind of see their logic here though. Just take a look at the last two big hits that Toonami had, Sword Art Online and Attack on Titan. Both pulled in big ratings, but to different degrees.

Sword Art Online aired at 2am, and from the week it aired to the week it ended, the ratings of the shows around it boosted. The viewerbase was required to sit through the shows before to get to SAO. Attack on Titan, on the other hand, aired at the start of the block and got impressive ratings, but then the ratings would absolutely plummet following it; practically none of the viewers who came for Attack on Titan stuck around for the rest of the block.

They've learned their lesson about programming flavor of the season shows at the very front of the block. It's smarter to go with a similar strategy as SAO (though thankfully not as late) and give the front slot to a anchor show instead (being DBZ Kai).

The reason they lost 5am was because Toonami's ratings have been doing very poorly the past few months. They had to rethink their strategy going forward.

Schedule on Feb 1 has DBZ Kai still leading off, with Attack on Titan rerurns already on later timeslot:
(ET)
11:30pm - DBZ Kai
12:00am - Naruto Shippuden
12:30am - Inuyasha: Final Act
01:00am - One Piece
01:30am - Gurren Lagann
02:00am - Deadman Wonderland
02:30am - Attack on Titan

So it seems everything after 12:30am will get pushed back a half-hour to accommodate Kill La Kill.

It's interesting since the first hour (DBZ Kai and Naruto Shippuden) is technically reruns too (those already premiered on other TV networks) but still popular enough that they should lead the block ahead of TV premieres that would follow them (Kill La Kill, Inuyasha: Final Act, One Piece).

So I guess the original logic of airing KLK at 11:30 was that premiering a hot recent show as the leadoff to the block had brought in strong ratings before. Both Space Dandy and Attack on Titan were highly anticipated and got great ratings at 11:30. But when AoT began airing repeats, people stopped tuning in, and this dragged the rest of the block down.

Given that, I think putting KLK at 11:30 would have been a strong move; it's been Toonami's most requested show for nearly a year now. But perhaps the low ratings led CN to take more control over Toonami's schedule, and they decided a proven franchise like DBZ made more sense in the 11:30 slot.

It still seems iffy to me to kick off the block with two older shows and make viewers wait an hour to get to the hyped newcomer. Perhaps CN'S new plan is to have DB and Naruto, which were the two ratings anchors of the old Toonami, consistently hold the first hour from now on. DB Kai will be about 150 episodes by the time it wraps up so it could keep airing "new" episodes at 11:30 for about three years at the current rate. That's certainly better than Titan airing for 24 weeks and then going into reruns until 2016.

This is probably why CN is still using the "uncut" designation in all its advertising for Shippuden, to distinguish it from the Disney broadcast (that they're still about 40 episodes away from overtaking.)

While I'm glad they've finally settled on a slot for KLK, I'm also trying to keep up with IY:Final Act ....and yet they keep shifting its timeslot around. Mad

Feb 7 schedule is out. 11:30 slot on Toonami is gone. It's only from midnight to 3:30. I give Toonami a year tops before it goes away again.

Aw darn, I was excited to not have to stay up until 1 in the morning like I had to with Space Dandy. :/ So yet again, I have to slog through an hour of shonen to get to the good stuff (nothing against those shows, they just aren't for me). But what sucks even more is Toonami having to cut out an entire hour of programming! At least it's at the end when nobody is watching it anyway, and not at primetime. I just hope they don't go off the air again.

I never got past the first episode because I wasn't too fond of it outside of the art. But maybe it gets better.
