I suppose the next topic up for linguistic debate would be whether or not the lead character in Berserk is Gatts or Guts.
Wait for it.......
Okay, GO!

That's right. We use Uzi's and sniper rifles, instead. ^__~ j/k
Next week, figuring out how to pronounce the "é" in Pokémon and why letters are silent in names like Nadesico and Sanosuke.
(Abunai, where art thou? ^__^; )

There aren't any silent letters in those. But then I'm going from your Romanization of them and not the Japanese.
But Sanosuke doesn't have any "silent" letters in it.

Ehhh, when it's pronounced casually, it sounds like the "u" has been dropped. It hasn't, of course, but when you take words or names like "daisuki" and "Mitsukake," it sounds like there's a silent letter, which is what I think Joe was referring to.

I know that's what he meant....But my point is that those letters are still there, they aren't "silent" nor have they been dropped.
I get called on the carpet when i get into the bad habit of doing this or pick it up in class from native speakers doing it. My tutor HATES it. (It's also one of the reasons I have my tutor, I want to speak it well.)
P.S. If you get to come to NDK again in Sept. we can meet up and compare our Japanese classes. I always find it fun to see how and what othere schools are doing.
