I'm not familiar (or never heard of) with Toho's CineMileage membership program probably because it's a Japan-only thing. Kinda cool to seeing how the new DBZ film can be used to promote it.

Interesting that a Toei movie is advocating on something Toho-related.

Man, no matter how many times I hear it, Goku's Japanese actress just does not fit. Hearing her yell Freeza just sounds wrong. I mean I'm sure she can act, but the casting is so odd. Eh, in regards to the add I am always a fan of seeing a Free(za) movie.

Actually, it does fit if you understand the character. The oddness of the voice matches the oddness of the character and her delivery brings an unmatched spirit and sincerity to it. |

With me, I'm used to Sean Schemmel's Goku, who sounds like an adult. I'm sure I would've grown used to Goku's Japanese voice if I had heard much of it back in the 90's, considering I got used to Monkey D. Luffy's voice having a similar approach (with Eiichiro Oda insisting every English dub of One Piece follow suit).
Speaking of One Piece, is Frieza's Japanese voice actor the same person who voiced Caesar Clown? Would've liked to see a translation of that commercial though. |

penguintruth, that's your opinion. My opinion is that just because a creator may approve a voice, it doesn't necessarily make it right.

I didn't even mention Toriyama's choosing of Nozawa. I'm speaking about the perfect reflection of the character as originally written and Nozawa's performance. |

I think it's only odd to westerners who grew up watching the dub. Modern anime viewers have no problem with shounen heroes having feminine voices. Luffy, Naruto, and Gon are all voiced by women and receive no real complaints, but most people who watched those series started with fansubs because they're more recent. Had Dragonball come out in modern times, I imagine those people would not complain. |
