I wonder how well this will go for them. Good luck!

I take it that Nintendo is taking the tablet/smartphone market seriously judging from this article.

Did nintendo actually created something and therefore filed a patent or is this is just another attempt to use patents to troll other business into paying the royalties just because they are emulating their hardware to play games not coded directly by nintendo?

No F2P please, don't be like GREEd and Moneybags, slurping cash from those who aren't thinking things through.

But does said app makes something so revolutionary to warrant a patent? If so, how come they are not pimping said revolutionary app the same they did with the Wii controls (which btw, infringed into philipps patents)? |

I'm not sure, but it looks like Nintendo is moving into the smartphone/tablet market. |

To me it looks like the are too late to the party and are looking for ways to profit from the android/iOS markets without releasing any game, following into the steps of microsoft. The followup to this story will no doubt be nintendo suing whoever sells emulators in said platforms. |

I hope that's not the case, these frivolous lawsuits are getting annoying, I even heard some states are cracking down on frivolous lawsuits and I hope other countries can crack down on those ridiculous lawsuits. Frivolous lawsuits=gold digging, monetary fraud, and extortion by using legal mean |

I believe this is just them trying to shut down those emulator apps people sell in the store. I'm unsure how those are even legal in the first place.

Because emulation is NOT illegal. It is a troublesome when there are bios/kernels/kickstarters needed to run said consoles, but neither the nes, snes or n64 have any said copyrighted code, |

Precedent states that as long as you don't sell copyrighted ROMs, emulating is OK.

More like, as long as you do not sell copyrighted roms you have not licensed, there are plenty of examples of collections of old games being sold for people to play in smartphones/tablets (which is probably from where nintendo wants a share of the pie). |

Don't forget those proprietary Genesis consoles you can buy at department stores or drugstores. One model even lets you play actual cartridges in it.

If you surf amazon or ebay you will also find clones that can run nes and snes cartridges, but nintendo can't profit out of them since decades ago the courts said NO. |
