I've been tempted to buy this title ever since I heard its silly sounding name. If I didn't know that Rightstuf's 12+ Days of Christmas Sale was coming up, it would be a definite buy. Hopefully after the holidays. Thanks for the review! It sounds like the type of story I'd enjoy.

Without spoiling the rest, let me just say that what I believe to be your misgivings about the story are addressed as it goes on. So glad this is getting a legal release in English; I can only hope the author's current title SPIRIT CIRCLE gets the same treatment (it's available on Crunchyroll Manga, but would be great to have hard copies of).

My that's a catchy tune, I can see where The Pillows popularity comes from.

I was looking for something to replace the just finished Cage of Eden with, looks like I've found it.

I was incredibly psyched when I had heard Seven Seas picked up this manga. One of my top series.

Also one of the few series where spoiler[my heart got stuck in my throat and I started tearing up while reading. It's a real emotional rollercoaster, a steady build-up then free-fall right on through to the end.]

I am very happy to be able to purchase this for my collection and to support Mizukami Satoshi.

This is one of my all time favourite mangas with the Mizukami Satoshi being one of my favourite mangakas. Both this and his currently serializing Spirit Circle are absolutely recommended reads. They are both manga gems.

Then save the $$ for those after 12+ Waves of December. It'll definitely worth it. Last 2 years I shopped for those, I ended up with over 20 DVDs/Blu-Rays each year.

IIRC, the first 3 Waves of November may carry over to December's Waves of sales, just like they did the last 3 years or so.

As for Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer, it's a good read. The art style may be bit weird, but you'll get drawn into its story.

Mizukami Satoshi. You can never judge his stories by it's synopsis or its first few chapters. Lucifer and Spirit Circle sound pretty normal for shounen, but jumping into the story and reading it... completely different. He is definitely my favorite mangaka.

Now time to pull some money together to grab it.

Definitely a great read, recommend it to pretty much everyone. The art style and character are really interesting without being weird for the sake of it.

Only problem is the ending sucked but we all knew it was gonna end that way sadly.

The ending was fantastic, with the, this is going to be a whole mess of spoilers for each coming volume so "warning, warning" even for those who read the entire series, spoiler[princess setting up a paradox where Hangetsu dies in order that Anima and Animus, his descendants, don't come to be in the first place. Plus, in doing that, Anima, the reincarnation of Samidare, gets to have the life she never got to enjoy with Yuuhi which was also orchestrated by Anima. And Animus is reincarnated as the Master, in the past. Yeah, the series really has the two future adversaries as both reincarnations and preincarnations both culminating in their combined defeat and victory. Like I said, paradox.

And I haven't even gotten into the meta explanation for the plot which gets foreshadowed constantly in the early volume; Long story short: Samidare's parents did their best to save her; Her mother as the doctor gets the most credit, her father is a writer, possibly a manga artist. This possibility never comes out and becomes text, it just gets referenced every now and then, like how convenient some things are or "how manga like" the situations are]

I bring this up because I never realized how well this was foreshadowed, right from the first volume. Hangetsu's part becomes obvious over the series, Samidare's only becomes clear when you reread it and then your whole perception of everything changes. Yuuhi? The greatest example of a "pinball protagonist" that I can think of spoiler[and he knows it].

One thing about the golems: Yeah, they are giant rocks that look like half formed lumps of flesh. Or maybe it's better to think of them as pottery, so, yeah, golems. I guess I think of them as really thick porcelain. Never thought of them as flesh though. Ever.

Several months ago, I read Spirit Circle on Crunchyroll, found it surprisingly engaging, and wished to purchased physical copies. Crunchy then licensed L&BH; which I read through in it's entirety in one or two sittings. Hopefully the presence of CR's (separate) translation won't tank Seven Seas's sales, it sounded like there's some real concern on that front.

It's not a mindblowingly amazing manga, but it's really solidly written, the characters are more human than their superficially similar stereotype counterparts.

Sounds like this book may not last long on store shelves and has a good chance of being high in demand later. I ought to pick this up.

Was this popular in Japan, and has it been adapted into an anime? Because I had never heard of it prior to this review.

Rumor floating around that Gainax almost did the animation before its... yeah.

As for popular, I don't honestly know. All I know is it has been quite popular on manga sites. I think it was trending pretty high back during its scanlation.

Also it did get vol 1 and 2 released briefly by JManga before its closure.

Maybe someday Trigger will animate it and bring The Pillow in to do the soundtrack for the anime version of this ^^

Very unlikely since the manga is now finished, but I think it'd be really cool to see done animated.
