It's a blessing that 4Kids is dead. 4chan would do a better localization job than they did.

ADV doesn't quite count since they transitioned into Section13.
I'm more surprised by the lack of Central Park Media.

Losing Bandai Ent. and Geneon were something that I never thought would happen, even with things going the way that they were.
CPM and ADV are two glaring omissions from this list, while 4kids and S'more, which still operate (albeit not in the anime industry), are included. It's confusing. Even assuming that ADV is not included due to all of the little chibi-ADV companies . . . Central Park Media is a bit of a big thing to miss.

ADV is still around, although it might just be a label name now. They were still releasing things from time to time after the sell-off. Although the last thing I remember them releasing was the UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie Seasons 1 & 2 DVD set a few years ago.
Plus they're still disputing with Gainax over the Evangelion live action movie fees/rights.
Also, wasn't the Love Hina anime Bandai's license(before Funimation got it)? Although Geneon did release the music CDs.

Bandai Entertainment only distributed GitS: SAC for Manga who still owns the show. Geneon only had the music CDs for Fruits Basket not the show itself.

Ghost in the Shell hasn't been rescued because it always has and still is being released by Manga Entertainment. They just don't do it jointly with Bandai anymore.

I heard through the grape-vine that Funimation had SAC as a Bandai rescue. That made me hopeful for a stateside Blu-ray release. Still crossing my fingers. Not sure why whoever owns it wouldn't do a Blu-ray release of something so popular. I know Manga has the movies/OVAs, so it would make sense for them to own SAC as well, but they rarely even do US releases. Also Funimation does have Arise.

Very surprised that CPM isn't on here. Sure, they had a lot of garbage that does not hold up well anymore, but they did have some really good series like Slayers, Patlabor, and Revolutionary Girl Utena.

CPM is important to mention since this is a company important to the career of the very founder of this site, Justin Sevakis, because he was a CPM worker for over 3 years.
From the Love Hina ANN Encyclopedia entry, Bandai Entertainment had the DVD rights initially while Geneon Entertainment had the soundtrack rights in America.
Despite the controversial treatment that 4Kids did with One Piece, Funi might have not picked the show up if One Piece hadn't butchered it here.

GITS:SAC is on iTunes in both SD and HD from Manga Entertainment. I do wish they would put out a BD set though. I don't really understand what the hold up is as its not like a new show.
I also think CPM should have been on the list, Grave of the Fireflies anyone?

I'd argue that if it wasn't for 4Kids' acquisition of Pokemon, many of the users on this forum would be doing something else.

There are some companies I really miss on this list. I was pretty bummed with Geneon when its fate was made known since a substantial amount of my collection included Geneon titles. It was even worse knowing that I had things like Hellsing Ultimate that weren't completely released yet. Bandai is a shame, too, since it had good titles and it tended to have box sets that were wallet-friendly.

Another dead company I think deserves a mention is Synch-Point Media, though I assume most people only know for their acquisition and dub of FLCL.

Re: this week's poll. I'm well aware that I may be thought odd, and part of a very small minority but...
...where is the option for ''I have never watched anything even remotely Gundam in my entire life' (or at least the nearly thirty years I have been watching anime)?
