Man that is horrible line up.Last year we had lot of great studios and directors working on these projects , but this year J.C. Staff and Studio DEEN are in charge (yaaaaaay). I don't know maybe Osamu Tezuka's kid might do something good.

Ugh, being down on J.C. Staff is just ridiculous. They've provided animation production on some of the best-loved titles in the business. Like all studios they've got dogs on their CV. What is far more relevant to how these projects might turn out is the director, producer and other creative staff. But fanboys love to make it look like they know shit when they hack on a specific studio, especially one like J.C. Staff. |

The last J.C. Staff anime I liked is I believe 6 years old , but that doesn't matter.The animation in their work is consistently mediocre , so I think we can easily draw conclusions here.Studio's way of functioning ( which is again very consistent ) can mostly be reflected in their products , for God's sake not even Yasuomi Umetsu with his numerous connections could salvage Wizard Barristers from Arms's production practices.Also , do you really want me to focus on this director in particular?Because he doesn't have exactly a shining career. |

My issue with this list is the Mirai part. How are a director who worked as director on a 1990 show (Yumiko Suda) and one born in 1961 (Makoto Tezuka) the "FUTURE" in any way, shape, or form? I thought this was a project to foster young talent? (The other two may very well be young...)
As for the beefs about studios, I agree that they are generally poorly founded and based on biases against studios for particular shows. What is most important in terms of quality of the animation is the budget the studio has to work with. That is where this program shines. Just look at "Little Witch Academia" for an example of the kind of amazing animation a studio can put out with the budget for an Anime Mirai project! This program is, in my opinion, one of the finest uses of government funds on the face of the earth!

It's not like people will care anyways unless the project looks anime-ish. A bunch of Mirai Projects been done, and the only things people care about are those that look anime-ish. So let's not pretend that studios or budgets matter because that's not it.

Those are some interesting studios. I'm fine with Deen and JC Staff, but Synergy SP? Most of their series are long running, low budget kids series. Hopefully this one has a decent budget. The Tezuka pro sounds interesting.
And I was under the impression that there wasn't going to be an Anime Mirai? Or was that just for this year? |

How come last year, there was no studio selling Blu-Rays of their stuff.
I only managed to find Little Witch Academia instead (2013).... |

Anime Mirai is aiming to add young talent to the industry, but that doesn't mean they hire young DIRECTORS. Actually, if you watch the special feature on the Little Witch Academia disc, the goal is to have experienced animators "mentor" aspiring animators so that they can learn and improve. Yoh Yoshinari (director of LWA) has been working in anime since at least the early/mid-90s, but they brought on a small squad of rookies to teach them the process. Watching them go through things at Trigger is actually a little more interesting than the LWA anime (which I did enjoy though), and IMO its worth buying the Little Witch Academia BluRay if ONLY for the Anime Mirai bonus content. |
