Does this make them voting members of the Academy in their respective areas?

I had read Miyazaki was invited to join AMPAS but it never said if he accepted or not. Now it makes sense that he's declined on the last few occasions but now that he's supposed to be "retired" I wonder if he will join this time around. On another note it's nice to see Steve Jablonsky get an invitation too, he's really coming up as a composer.

Dorian: I think they'd have to move out here to be able to join the voters, but I'm not sure.

Its nice that they have been invited and recognized for their talents and contributions. 3 times for Miyazaki too!

^ I certainly hope so! I read that one of the reasons "Frozen" won last year was because it was the only one that some of the members of the Academy saw. We need a new view on the world of animation. And Mr. Miyazaki being the animation genius he is would be a WONDERFUL addition! Same goes for Mr. Suzuki!

No, there were some Academy members who admitted not seeing all the animation entries and ended up not voting - which is what they should do. (And the same goes for Miyazaki and Suzuki - if they don't watch all the nominated entries, then they shouldn't vote too.) |

Are you sure you're not confusing it with "Brave" winning the year before (which a number of critics panned, over the critic-favorite Wreck-It Ralph) because the Pixar name made it the only one they saw? Frozen had, er, pretty well written its own invitation in LA...If y'know what I mean. It was a fairly safe bet no matter what happened. |

It's almost as if people believe those seven are the only people who could vote, not counting the THOUSANDS who actually can and do. I've seen people believe that the snippet of seven votes represents everyone, and even then, they didn't bother to actually read where it says of those seven, many abstained. Then when they do understand this, the next line was something about "being a professional judge and an obligation to see literally everything". They're not, they're just Academy Members and thus guaranteed a vote to use however they wish. |
