Discotek: your one-stop shop for horrifically violent, so-bad-it's-good OVAs.
That isn't named Manga Entertainment. |

Not thrilled to hear the original mosaic-ing will be retained, but I am curious about this notorious title, I must admit.

To be fair, Manga did used to have it. |

Violence Jack is horrid, vile, disgusting, misanthropic filth unfit for human viewing. It is less an anime OVA and more snuff porn for the degenerate dregs of society.
So, yeah, totally getting it. |

I don't know what's worse Violence Jack or Genocyber. Both turds if your into no plot at all and just want to watch people's body parts get severed with tons of bloodshed.

And those were the ones who originally released it. I have to wonder though, will this release be dual audio in a single release, or will there be separate Japanese and English versions ala Samurai Pizza Cats? As I recall, Manga's dubbed version cut out a number of gruesome sequences due to BBFC restrictions. Also, here's hoping that this means at some point Discotek gives us an Angel Cop re-release, with accurate (read: antisemitic) subtitles.
Genocyber, at least for the first half, is somewhat interesting due to its scathing critique on science and technology going to far when experimented on humanity. Once it gets to the Legend of Grand Ark saga does it take a huge narrative nose dive. Coincidentally enough, both it and Jack had screenplays penned by Sho Aikawa. @ penguintruth: If Discotek is smart, they'll slap your description on the back of the case.

Hah I didn't know that but I guess it makes sense now though! I always thought Violence Jack, Genocyber and M.D Geist were the worst things to come out of the ultra violent genre lol
I agree. Angel Cop definitely needs a rescue as well as Wild 7, Psycho Diver, Cyber City Oedo 808 and Biohunter. Last edited by u6064vision on Wed Jun 11, 2014 4:30 pm; edited 1 time in total |

You should totally post that on their Facebook page, Pengu. I'd vote for it. |

I'd kill for a Cyber City release. Personally it's my favorite Kawajiri work. It also had a sharp looking DVD re-release in Japan years back, and if Discotek does get it, I hope it would include the fantastic re-done UK soundtrack. Also, kind of bummed about this release still being mosaiced (as the Japanese version was), as there is a Hong Kong VCD bootleg out there that, shockingly enough, has some uncensored scenes. |

I couldn't stop laughing reading that part. So I agreed with Blood- on this. Nice to see another license rescue thanks to Discotek. Last edited by mdo7 on Thu Jun 12, 2014 9:06 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Part of me was hoping they had licensed Wild 7. After all, it certainly fit the description they gave (so-bad-it's-good, really violent, never released on DVD).

Wild 7 is fantastic. Still own both my old Urban Vision VHS tapes. The whole Wild 7 motorcycle gang were great too. Such a classic. |

I doubt Angel Cop will happen, especially with shit like this and that Belgium incident going on.

I think that only applies to the UK VHS release. The US release has always been intact. Don't quote me on that, but I believe that's the cast. |
