What a sh*tty looking poster to begin with. A field, a guy coming out of a case, any photoshop newbie can make this in 5 minutes or less. No thought whatsoever is put into posters these days and feel like they're designed to make me not want to watch the movies they promote.

I don't what to believe. For all we know, maybe Garcia is making this up just to get more money or maybe Lee did copyright infringe Garcia.
However, looking at Lee's history of controversial remarks (especially those regarding race), I think I might be siding with Garcia. |

The poster sucking doesn't justify theft.

I hope Lee loses the suit, just to further make that box office bomb sting all the worse.

Spike Lee is just a hatable jackass. He won the life lottery, and had a lot of critical acclaim in the past, why waste it on insulting garbage like the Oldboy remake.

Even if Garcia's in the right, the movie tanked. So I'm not sure what kind of "lost revenue" he can expect from it.

This confuses me. He was HIRED to make posters, but later declined payment because the pay wasn't enough? I would assume that there was an initial contract written up where Garcia agreed to create posters for an agreed upon amount of money. Another situation could be that Garcia was asked about creating a poster, made some mock-ups, and then decided that the studio wasn't offering enough money to finalize the deal. If Garcia does not have the documents to prove that he was asked to create posters or if he doesn't have the original art for the posters his claim is pretty much shot. I believe that Spike Lee never met him and it is likely a marketing deal that didn't go over well. I'm actually interesting in seeing where this goes. |

Spike has had no luck with this Oldboy remake.

I get the feeling a copy of these posters were on the marketing firms computers and someone who didn't know any better just used them.

That's linked within the article itself, when it was written up last year. The lawsuit is new, the claim is not.

He was a freelance worker entitled to payment for services rendered, whether the movie was a total bomb or a smash hit has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with him getting paid. Spike Lee certainly got his paycheck. |

I happen to be one of the unlucky ones.
I saw that piece of garbage in the theater. |

I hope you went and saw something else for free afterward. Man, the upcoming Kite should also be such a bucket of fun. |

Considering the comps were in his portfolio and then the popped up on the movie's facebook page... Yeah, I'm leaning on the artist's side here. http://www.businessinsider.com/juan-luis-garcias-email-to-spike-lee-2013-11 Pay your freelancers. |
