That director doesn't go for ecchi.

Yeeeeea........the world could do without another atrocious abomination like "Wanna be the strongest in the world".

If he makes a series with a more serious take on the sport i'd actually be up for it but what i DON'T want is 15 minutes of moaning and tasteless camera angles.......

All I want is some barbed-wire-electric-pool-landmine deathmatches.

something like ika msume but focused on wrestling would be cool, but it would have to be an original creation as I have been searching for a manga like that for a while to no avail.

Agreed. The four episodes I saw actually had me shouting at my laptop, which is never a good sign. The whole "idol to wrestler" shtick was a pretty half-baked anyway.

Anyway, Girls und Panzer was awesome, and Dokuro-chan was pretty entertaining as well, so I hope he'll make this work, though I hope he won't go for the torture porn route and instead go for something more along the lines of GuP.

Seriously, though, shit like Wanna Bitch the Stupidest in the Whore is the reason why anime isn't the most respected medium (even Conan O'Brien took a rather mean potshot at it once, and I doubt most people watching TBS - the American one - would really be watching anime).

You know what was awesome? Tiger Mask.

You know what wasn't? Wanna Be Strongest in the World.

You want to do a pro wrestling anime? Good. That's a good idea for a show. But make it more like Tiger Mask than Wanna Be Strongest.

He doesn't do heavy ecchi, but he does some. Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan, Kemeko Deluxe had ecchi. Azazel-san also had ecchi humor. I haven't seen Witch Craft Works yet, but I'm assuming that has some light stuff in it too.

You what the world needs less of? People complaining about the existence of stuff they don't like. Anime shouldn't be just one homogenous media all filled with SRSBZN titles, just to gain "respect". Wanna Be Strongest is a great title for anyone who appreciates ecchi and pro wrestling. Because ironically, it does actually showcase real women's pro-wrestling, you know, the real life version that is made for fanservice entertainment with skimpy outfits, lots of grunts and screaming.

It might as well be a homogenous, the thing is that there's barely any serious anime. I think it's funny how many of these people that constantly go around telling people that they watch these shameless shows always blow a fuse whenever someone says a single negative thing about them.

You must not be aware of the 40-50 new shows every season, amounting to 160-200 new shows a year. Do you watch all of them? I do, nearly most.
You must not be aware of the shoujo/otome/fujoshi titles.
You must not be aware of the drama/romance titles, both romcom and serious drama.
You must not be aware of the slice-of-life and comedy titles.
You must not be aware of the mecha titles.
You must not be aware of the sports titles, and so on.
Given the plethora of all sorts of shows, other than just ecchi titles, please tell me how anime might as well be homogenous?

I never shit on anyone just for disliking something. What's there to argue about? I'm not here to convince you to like it. But I am calling people out for complaining about the existence of the anything they don't like, as if their values should be other people's values.

Anyways, coming back to the topic about pro-wrestling, I don't think you can avoid the fanservice aspect when the real-life version is made for fanservice to begin with. We're talking about pro-wrestling, the entertainment medium here, not sport wrestling.

Ironically, what would make it a more serious show, other than just pro-wrestling portrayed in anime, is the secretive behind-the-scenes production that he wants to skip:

Many of those mecha titles desperately want to be seen as serious business, but they're usually overreaching, aren't they? But there's always other and better examples, like JJBA.

I said shameless not ecchi, and those are all genres that were made for or have become otaku pandering.
