If it was to celebrate A Link Between Worlds, why isn't it the Zelda from ALBW? Heck, I'd love to see Link and spoiler[Hilda] from ALBW, too.

Female swordwoman please? Sure she wasn't a main character throughout the story, but I still think Fire Emblem's Lyn should have been playable in the last game Razz At least she was recognized in the form of an Assist Trophy...

I was hoping to see Zelda from Skyward sword, not the twilight princess version.

I want to see Marth, Chrono, Frog, Dixie Kong, or the dog from Duck Hunt

Not making Lyn a playable character has always been Smash Bros.' biggest failure for me. Easily the most kickass character in the entire Fire Emblem franchise. Playing as her would be a continuous mindgasm.

From what I can recall, Zelda was in SSB Melee (along with a Sheik alternate). Was she taken out of Brawl or something? Was there any possible reason to think that Zelda wouldn't be a character in the newest one?

Zelda was in Melee and Brawl, yes, but being in one doesn't guarantee you'll be in the next. Young Link, Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, Roy, and Pichu, were all characters not carried over from Melee to Brawl. Then again, all of them were unlockable characters and Zelda is on the main roster, so she may now be a mainstay for future games, but it's still not guaranteed. With a game built around the idea of connecting several dozen game franchises I don't see the need to cut players from the roster in the first place, but they've done it anyways.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lucario got replaced with Blaziken (with the ability to go Mega) since Gamefreak and Nintendo have the biggest hard on for him and he'll most likely be a star in the next movie.

According to Wikipedia's [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Smash_Bros._%28series%29#Playable_characters
chart[/url], no characters from the first game have been cut from the series. The only characters who have been dropped were introduced in Melee and dropped from Brawl.

That being said, two of those drops (Mewtwo, Young Link) were replaced with similar characters (Lucario, Toon Link). The other 3 (Dr. Mario, Pichu, Roy) I can see as playing very similar to other characters (Mario, Pikachu, and Marth), which could have lead to their removals.

From the original to Melee, the roster increased from 12 to 26. From Melee to Brawl, 26 to 37. I definitely think we'll get an increase in characters, but I'm not expecting by a lot. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see DCL characters in this one, especially if it's characters who have been in previous games and not in this one.

Once you get too many characters it's hard to balance a fighting game though.

Not that Nintendo ever actually BALANCES SSB games but I'm praying that perhaps this game will bring back the greatness of Melee and not be a complete borefest like Brawl.

To the surprise of absolutely nobody. If anyone is getting cut its characters like ROB or Lucas, not Zelda.
