I really hope Phantasy Stay Nova gets released over here, but I'm still waiting for a release date on Phantasy Star Online 2 . It will probably be digital-only, but I love PSO so much it doesn't really matter to me.
I'm also really surprised that physical PSP releases are still coming out. I guess Sweet Fuse will probably be the last one. Class of Heroes 2 also got an extremely limited physical release this summer.

In related news, the next BlazBlue on the PS3 will have Kokonoe, the cranky catgirl scientist, as a DLC character.
And older Bridget is fittingly reminiscent of Kousaka from Genshiken.

Trails in the Sky: I understand taking on a script of SC's size is a considerable undertaking and those of us who know, based on what we've seen of the Japanese version, thought it was looking pretty bleak for a long time. No announcements, no updates. I was willing to wait as long as it took for them to say something, but others just gave up entirely. This is the best news U.S. Falcom fans could ever get, aside from a localized Ys title of course. I simply cannot wait to get back into it and help Estelle find Joshua.
Quote: | Namco Bandai released the earlier Gagharv sub-trilogy for the PSP, and its generic confines won over few RPG enthusiasts. |
Todd, it had nothing to due with the trilogy being generic. Due to NB's ineptitude in not quality checking the final product (seriously, is proofreading really that hard?), all three games had horrendous translations and it prevented many from enjoying an otherwise interesting collection of stories and characters. It also didn't help that they released the games in the wrong order. Moonlight Witch is the first game, but they released A Tear of Vermillion first. Song of the Ocean has a barely coherent translation, but it's actually more readable than the other two. Honestly, I expected better from NB, which (in addition to their bumbling with the Tales series following Vesperia five years ago) is why I referred to them as Dumbco for a handful of years.
Phantasy Star Nova: I wonder if I'm the only one who wants Phantasy Star to return to its traditional JRPG framework. And yes Todd, your annotation again echoes that there still won't be another Valkyrie Profile in a long time, if it all.

Grand Theft Auto V; I guess this is a popular series or something. First I've heard of it. |
Wish I could forget it existed.

Ugh, GTA5. I so wish this series would die already. After playing GTA3 & Vice City fully. It was pretty much the same with little added features and storyline. The same thing with 4 and so on. We get the same things and they sell like wildfire while other games that are totally different (like The Wonderful 101) will sit on the shelf.
As for the Vita, it kinda makes me mad that they are doing a redesign for the Vita since I already own one. While I understand in which other companies do it, I feel Sony upgrades the specs of their handhelds everytime there is something newer unlike Nintendo who typically just updates the way it looks (making it smaller or brighter with the exception of the GBA SP and maybe DSi but that is like a 3DS Light, of course we are getting the 2DS, ugh). I've still got a PSP 1000 and there are some features I can't use on that one, it feels like a Cellphone upgrading the features in it.

Well, I would be excited for the sequel to Trails in the Sky, but I still need to get through the first game. It's a lot of work, spending 60 hours playing around with Ti........ okay, I won't make that abbreviation joke, but it's very hard to resist making it. It's like thunderdome gags. For some reason, I can't get beyond thunderdome.

San Andreas was fantastic, and V is pretty much influenced by that game.

When I looked at Sweet Fuse, I was struck by how totally the same as Ace Attorney it looks, art-wise. Turns out the artist is the same. Also the same artist as the manga Afterschool Charisma.
... Okay, maybe that was obvious to all of you or you all already knew, but I didn't!

Those who are looking forward to playing Second Chapter of Trails in the Sky series might be disappointed to find the quality of the plot have gone down significantly from the First Chapter. What SC boils down to is "some bad guy is doing something bad in this town, so we as the protagonists should go beat 'em up and save the town!". I will admit, this trend stops a little bit past the midway point of the game and starts to focus more on the relationship between Estelle and Joshua, which was the game's saving grace. But still, the first half of the game could have being better if done right.
I am more looking forward to the translation of the 3rd game though. That game was like a huge extra-fan-dedicated material for those who wanted to explore the Trail Universe even more after the first two games. Unfortunately, I favored the completion of the game over going through every single scenario that was offered in the game, and I never got the urge to go back to it. I might reread all of that stuffs after the English translation comes out.

Todd should probably mention that Trails in the Sky: SC is being localized for PSP as a PSN-only release. There's a PS3 version of the game, and using the catch all PSN banner can cause confusion.
As well, Vita TV doesn't play all Vita games. Sony made a point to mention that and released a list of compatible software in Japanese. Notably, Gravity Rush isn't compatible. Of course, this could be changed via patches or something. Also, I doubt Vita TV means the end of touch controlled Vita games. If Vita TV does well I'd expect developers to just do alternative control schemes ...

The Vita 2000 does nothing your Vita 1000 can't. The only thing it's got on the original models is slightly better battery life, and a smaller size. Sony ditched the OLED screen for an LCD one, which has been a much derided choice.

I'm interested in playing Sweet Fuse. I've always wanted to play an otome game. I hope someone brings over the Alice games as well as Uta-Pri.

Oh that's right, I have a PSP too... I just use my DS way way more. But I might want to dig it out to play Sweet Fuse. I rather wish that Sony still seemed to support the PSP in the US, but they kind of don't.
Hmm, Shantae, I'd like to, but I don't have a single thing to play it on! I never got to play the original, but when I get a 3DS, I plan to get the one on the 3DSware.

Yeah Grand Theft Auto V is going to be fantastic. Turly a GOTY contender no doubt.
Happy that more Trails games are coming, hopefully Xseed keeps bringing more Falcom games.

PSP is 10 years old next year ... Did you expect them to make big games on it still or something?

Probably to help localize more PSP games. Would have loved to have Suikoden 1 & 2 and many others.
