Had a feeling this would eventually happen after the Kaiji announcement.
I thought an anime about mahjong would be lame so I avoided it after watching Kaiji.
But then after reading more of Nobuyuki Fukumoto's work I decided to trust he'd somehow make mahjong interesting and I shouldn't be surprised he did; Akagi was one of his first.
To be honest even after watching the anime I still don't completely understand everything about mahjong but I picked up the important things (I think that's all you really need), it was still very entertaining, Akagi is one of the most bafm characters ever created and Iwao Washio is ALMOST as disturbing as Kazutaka Hyoudou from the Kaiji franchise (AKA one of the best villains of all-time)
Only bad thing I can say about Akagi is it has an open ending since the manga is still ongoing; apparently years worth of material is about the same match at the end of the anime and new chapters still are!
Maybe a season 2 someday...
Got to love that Masato Hagiwara and Masane Tsukayama voice the protagonist and villain in both franchises.
I wonder if the pattern will continue if Kurosawa ever gets an anime. (Do it Madhouse!)
If Sentai does license Kaiji I hope they'll pick up Akagi also.

This show can be pretty fun even without knowing how to play mahjong, but you won't understand a single thing going on without being well versed on how its played.
Glad to finally see it getting a stream.

Glad to see that this has a legal stream. And now Crunchyroll has both of the giants of mahjong anime: Akagi and Saki.
Yeah, I'm sure that I will enjoy it as much as I am enjoying watching Kaiji.

Really enjoy Akagi. It's too bad that Fukumoto is incapable of ending the Washizu showdown though.

More Fukumoto works is always a good thing. I love Akagi even though I am practically clueless about mahjong.
I've tried playing the actual multi-player tile game once during a board game con and I found it to be surprisingly relaxing.
Scoring system is still a bitch, though.

Yeah, I've only played digital mahjong because it does all the scoring for you. There's no way I could calculate the value of a non-standard hand.

That arc is already over.

I like your use of 'already' as if it hadn't been going on for at least 8 volumes after the content covered by the anime. I'm still at ch. 178, so no clue when this crazy train will finally end. Good to hear that eventually people will stop randomly reviving though.
