Yeah and according to Brian Ashcraft of Kotaku, there are Japanese gamers that are not happy with PS4's Japan release date.
But anyway, this is the first time I've seen a Playstation console being release first in the west before Japan.

That's odd...
We're just guinea pigs, by the time Japan gets it all the bugs should be worked out.

I guess since Microsoft gave up Japan (not that I could blame them) it makes sense to have a later date than NA/EU which will have the new Xbox to compete with for the holidays

Japan doesn't like being insulted that way. Expect alot of them to avoid PS4 and unimpressive preorders.

Actually its a strategic blunder that shall soon come back to bite them in the ass. Sony just told Japan to go screw themselves. Japanese gamers respond with their wallets.
You don't show disloyalty to your homeland and consumers in Japan, Sega learned the same thing with Dreamcast being rushed into production.

You sure you are not getting confused with M$? Maybe some software refining, but at the least Sony has a track record of good hardware which is more worrisome that bugs (LOL @ M$), particularity in consoles the first gen (Sony consoles)are always the superior models, afterwards you have the cheap downgrades to save costs.

Sure! Because they have how many alternatives again?

And Dreamcast was eaten whole by the competition.
Now you add into the equation rushed production... I say it again, this is Sony not M$'s amateurish attempts at hardware and a billion dollars in damage later. And you contradict yourself, you mention rushed production and Sony is exactly doing the opposite, lol.
So no your comparison to DC is totally, completely and utterly off in the 2 aspects you mention.
A 3 months delay is no big deal, anyone with a minimum of intelligence can see this is for the better, Sony is pushing in the markets they lost quite a lot of terrain this gen, this will only benefit Sony's fans everywhere, including Japan, with more and better games for this console if it returns to dominate again.

And here we have Sony not rushing the PS4 into production for Japan.
Good job contradicting yourself!

The thing is, the launch line-up is very Westernised and would struggle in Japan anyway. Even the comments in the article linked in the first post are mixed, rather than a consensus that this is a bad thing. I think Sony had taken a decision on where the wars where to be fought, and Japan just wasn't a battle ground for them.

A completely disjoined fanboy post.
Yes, there are other alternatives. Currently on the market and one coming before PS4 in Japan.

I was kinda joking.
Are you one of those Sony-Can-Do-No-Wrong types?

It's a very bad decision. The preorder numbers will determine that.
As for US, Microsoft will waste no time in using aggressive marketing on Xbox One. People are underestimating that.

I love jrpgs so yep, I favor Sony and I m hoping for dominance so I am never again forced to buy anther console, but Sony is as evil and money hungry as other corps and I do not forget the huge screw ups this gen.
But please, by all means, mention the only successful current(gen) alternative(s) and the one coming before ps4. Seems you are form a parallel universe here, NAMES PLEASE, not just VAGUE STATEMENTS.
Ps4 only direct competitor is sure to be a massive sucess like this current yen right, that is why its(Japan) a primary market, can you remember me the Japanese release data again? Thanks, I have such bad memory and I am so much out of reality I am afraid to say.
Whats the biggest insult here, or the real insult, entirely skipping the country or delaying merely 3 months to rise to dominance once more?

I notices, but I could not resist with a serious reply.
Sony can do a LOT of retarded BS, like this gen.

Just repeating what I mentioned here before:
enurtsol wrote: | Sony is doing this as consolation for Japan since, while the PS4 is going on sale Nov. 15 in the U.S. and Canada and Nov. 29 in Europe, it won’t go on sale in Japan until next year Feb 22, 2014. So Sony needs something for the key year-end holiday New Year’s shopping season in Japan.
America and Europe are bigger markets than Japan - so it's easy to see where their priorities lie. And because Japanese game developers have required more time to develop games for the PS4 - a console launch without enough Japan-geared titles would not go over well there. And they can do this because Xbox One doesn't plan to launch in Japan until even later. |
Plus, as others have said:
- Capturing the Japanese market is a given for Sony, but there is real competition with Microsoft in EU/NA. With the Xbox 1 launching in time for the holidays, Sony is rightfully putting its development money into the battleground regions.
Ironically, it's Japan's very loyalty to the Playstation franchise that's relegating it to second place.
- It makes perfect sense to follow the demand while there isn't sufficient stock globally. Gift giving at Christmas time in Europe and US eclipses Japan. Post Christmas shopping is mostly sale items, so there won't be as much PS4 purchasing going on in January there. However in Japan, February is when most people are flush with bonus cash, not December, giving Sony all of January to manufacture for Japan.
- So I think in a very smart move they are sending as many units to US and EU shelves as possible. (and they have to localize all the western games into Japanese which is not first priority for most western devs as seeing Japan is like 10% of the market for most western made games ie. Watch Dogs, Killzone 4 , AC4 etc so they wanted to get the games ready for English speaking markets first. Just like Japanese games luanch first in Japan, beucase sometimes it takes a while to localize to English. Many of the games we have been shown like Watch Dogs is not even finished yet, but still slated to be ready by Nov 15th. Think they are going to be RACING to translate that game to Japanese when 90% of the people who are going to buy it speak English?
- The West is more into consoles, while Japan is more into handhelds. It makes sense to launch PS4 first in console-dominated markets, ahead of handheld-dominated markets.

The Japanese should be happy. If the PS4 has issues, it'll be fixed by the time they receive it, since we're the guinea pigs!
Plus, I'd rather wait than have a buggy or f*cked up console.
