Hit the nail on the head my friend. An enjoyable set of episodes as usual though parts of the Daphne arc i found to be way too forced (Will he , wont he be evil with Gray) and the designs of the lizardmen a tad uninspired. By this point though one just has to deal with the fact the animation just won't be that good overall so the D was fitting.

iirc after this point they had animator Toshiharu Sugie (animated Natsu vs Laxus in episode 48) work a lot less on the show so we were left with 2 other good guys who still weren't on his level (and he's not even the best animator himself anyway). I really wish the show was more consistent with the animation like it was in the first 48 episodes but oh well.

Personally, I think the thing I like best about Fairy Tail is how formulaic and predictable it is. Very few shounen battle anime that try to shoehorn in some epic overarching storyline can manage to do it without falling on their face. Fairy Tail circumvents this problem by simply ignoring it. Fairy Tail is about kung fu wizards beating the crap out of bad guys, and it doesn't try to be anything else.

Sure, it's not a compelling literary masterpiece, but is that really what we want out of it? Fairy Tail sticks close to the pillars of its genre, fighting, fanservice and friendship, and I think it's better for it.

I won't argue about the animation quality, though. Ugh.

As much as this review brings up some very agreeable points, I find it funny that it praises the dub for capturing the goofy spirit of the original, yet its rating doesn't seem to go higher than a C+. I know it has to do with differing opinions, but seeing how the reviewer of Soul Eater Part 4 criticized the dub for being too banal, yet gave it a B-...

As for the whole revelation about Cait Shelter...I hate that scene. When I think hard about it, I really, really hate that scene. It was unexpected to be sure, and that's part of why I hate it. It was too unexpected, too left-field. It's like if the author decided for Wendy to join Fairy Tail, then the way he brought it about was an afterthought. Perhaps if they forshadowed it some episodes before the reveal, or if the story showed us rather than told us how much Wendy loved her old guild beyond the simple indication that she lived with those people for seven years, then I would have had an easier time swallowing the heavy moment it presented. The only thing about it I can forgive is that it led to Wendy joining Fairy Tail at all, because she has long since become one of my favorite characters. Unlike a certain other moment from an upcoming DVD set I won't spoil for anyone (I'll let the movie do that instead).

Different reviewer and 3 years ago, so even if it was the same person, they have had different standards or tastes for a dub. Carlos here could have given the Soul Eater dub in Volume 4 a D- for all we know or not.

Even with some sort of standards, you can expect grades to be all over the place when it's many professional opinions judging hundreds of different works.

On Cait Shelter, I haven't watched it or read it in ages, but after Gajeel joined (which was very well done I thought) and we barely saw any representation from Wendy's guild I concluded that every Dragon Slayer is bound to join the guild (silly I know) and I haven't been that far off. >_> Have I?

I can understand how poorly done it is though, I'm almost up to date on the manga (ahead of the anime that ended but missed chapters when Hiro started pumping out three at once), can you mention that moment in a coming DVD set in spoilers or should I just guess that it is THAT arc with THAT power scaling and tossing of major villains to the wayside or the next one. >_>
