Anyone thought of contacting FUNimation seeing as how they seem to be the (once again) the distributers?

I don't see anywhere where it says "uncut" but I suppose it would have to be if it's going to be bilingual. This should be a good sign to the anti-4Kids fanboys out there, as this will be the first time they've allowed an uncut home release. This could mean good things in the future for certain fan favorite titles (coughShamankingcough) and maybe lighten some of the 4Kids bashing. Rolling Eyes

Yes, I do plan on buying the DVDs. Guilty pleasure. Anime catgrin

It's not the first time, as Ultraman Tiga was announced first. (Which is great, because sentai fans have had to endure half-assed dubs or lame Saban cast-jobs for too long!) I'm interested in Ultimate Muscle as well. Although the episode count might just make me choose a rental instead. Now all I care about is Sonic X, cus I hear his Engrish is great to listen to.

I have a feeling that the Best Buy or Wal-mart release of UM will be much more affordable, perhaps $12, maybe even less?

I didn't releaize Tiga was uncut, was it still dubbed?

Yeah, but at least the Japanese actors got their due screen-time, as opposed to those in a Saban production.

Why, Funimation? Why must they treat some shows so well, and butcher other ones so bad? Dragonball on Toonami had insanely loose editing for a Toonami show, yet DBGT has about the first dozen episodes removed, and it was totally 'improved' all around.

FUNimation is 4Kids exclusive distributer, that's why (though I'm pretty sure Pokemon is still being done through Pioneer). ALL current titles done by 4Kids will be handled by FUNi for home release. Also as far as I can tell FUNi hasn't "butchered" anything. DB, DBZ, and DBGT are all fairly intact, they just chose not to show a large groupe of GT eps, they weren't edited out and they weren't dismissed, they aren't even being covered up as never existing, they just chose not to show them now. That's not butchering as nothing was even edited, it's a fair market strategy and they're still open to show them at a later time.

And why are you complaining? Even if FUNi was the worse company in the world we're already pretty sure they'll be uncut and unedited so what's the problem?

And also, the episodes that Funi skipped in GT were pretty sucky, so I don't mind them skipping ahead to the Baby saga.

According to AOD regulars, Nintendo won't let 4Kids release the unedited Japanese version of Pokemon. But then they're used to making stupid business decisions nowadays, so it doesn't surprise me.

Basically I was complaining because Funimation started out as a company that edited anime quite a bit (which was standard practice for TV at the time, I suppose), but recently started releasing shows much less edited or not at all. Then they made some kind of horrible intro for GT and skipped a large amount of episodes (which if they release later, will be not as bad). Now they're apparently back to treating anime better again. Which means when an anime is licensed by them, I have to worry whether it's going to come through unscathed.

Although altogether I SHOULD just be happy that an anime on FOX is getting released with Japanese language track at all! Definately a move in the right direction. :D

I've already checked, I couldn't find anything there.

Oh well, it's a given that FUNi is doing them, just need to find out the specifics.

I'm shocked that a fox show is being released with the japanese track. Gives me hope for shaman king.

and on a side note, it's pretty stupid to start airing gt from the middle rather than the beginning.

I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that was Pioneer's doing, not FUNi's. As far as I know all of FUNi's own releases have been uncut and unedited since they went off on their own with DBZ. I do know the very first DBZ video with a FUNi logo on it did indead say uncut on it. I don't believe they've failed on it since. You really can't hold television against them since they have no controlle over what the FCC tells the networks they can and can't do and thus have no choice but to comply.

People tend to be really hard on FUNi even though they're doing nothing different from the other companies distributing anime out there. I see much the same things in 4kids who are getting a bad rap for doing things that they probably don't have controlle over. The fact that they're trying to get uncut releases out should be enough to put the complaints to rest.

Pioneer was merely FUNimation's distributer (pretty much a reversal of roles from how FUNimation is now...) back during the first two seasons / first three movies of DBZ.

JUST REMEMBER that FUNimation is only DISTRIBUTING "Ultimate Muscle." This doesn't necessarily mean they get to make all marketing decisions concerning what's actually ON the discs. ULTIMATELY, it's PROBABLY still left up to 4-Kids.

So if that gets a dub/sub release... time to start thanking 4-Kids, and not FUNimation...

I'm still going to defend FUNi here though. Maybe Pioneer wasn't the problem, but they didn't appear to be helping things either. On top of that they've got Saban who already had a bad habbit of prefering their own edits over staying close to the originals, and the FCC who saw DBZ as being far too violent. Then you've got the poor time slot driving viewership down and it's easy to see why FUNi was forced to do the things they did. It's almost as if they had the license and everyone else was telling them what to do with it. It's not as if FUNi had a whole lot of experience with anime, while doing DBZ they were also doing live action educational videos, puppet shows, and Chuck E Cheese home videos.
