I wonder what the issue was with the original English dub was - assuming there was already a dub - anyone wish to fill me in?

Maybe they couldn't get the rights to that dub? Not a huge loss on this OVA, but I do treat dubs as a nifty extra and something to at least check out if you're curious. So when does exist, it's always better for it be included.

We actually don't know. This is the second MJ release, that was previously licensed by Manga, that they were unable to include the older dub. Either the Japanese company was unable to provide, or there is some issue with Manga. It's possible they may own the actual rights to the English dub.

They could have provided their own English dub like they did with Appleseed and Grave of the Fireflies(even though I believe those include the original English dub as well). But I suppose they thought that it wouldn't sell enough to get a new English dub.

The Manga release does have a dub, according to the box it is in 5.1 surround sound.

Sub only fans will rejoice but dub only fans will not put out their money for this. Them's the breaks.

Both of those were Sentai Blu-ray releases and much bigger names. Of course a Maiden Japan DVD wouldn't get the red carpet treatment they did.

This is pretty odd, because the old release did have a dub. I wonder if there was a reason behind it.

Mainly people getting this are those who remember getting it back in the day.

It's a shame Maiden Japan isn't going to include the English dub on "New Dominion Tank Police." I didn't think it was a bad one. Personally,I think it's a stupid decision on their part. I hope dub fans raise cain with this one and hope that Maiden Japan reverse their idiotic decision. The show already had an English dub. Why not just include it?

Well yes, there would have to be a reason behind. They wouldn't just strip the dub for shits and giggles, especially when it means they would have to lower the MSRP.

1. Over the top comments from a butthurt dub fan (why am I not surprised)

2. Yeah, because it is always easy, simple, and cheap to acquire a dub that was produced by another company for a former release. Rolling Eyes

There's obviously a reason as to why they're not including it. I didn't think that the dub for the first OVA was particularly memorable so I could care less to be honest.

Of course there's a "reason", but it's probably not a very convincing one beyond "we didn't want to bother with acquiring those rights" or "they just weren't available to us." I doubt the audio masters were lost in a fire or a move.

Aw, damn. The English dub was terrible, but funny-terrible. Like Cyber City Oedo's.

Oh well, still a good get.
