Got it pre-ordered from amazon UK (as much as that counts for anything) and am waiting. Got a square ton of other books to buy in the meantime

This looks really interesting, but I'm wary of starting series that have no end in sight. I see on Wiki that it's ongoing. Anyone out there know if the feels like it's going to be another Berserk or HunterxHunter (both of which I love, but....).

I looks interesting I wonder what Yakimura take on the Vinland Saga is and it not only the length of the series but the price of each volume as well. If you are lucky they might be $9.95 a volume or as high as $25.95 at least a volume you never know that the problem as well as how many volumes in the series you never know as well.

It's definitely going to be a long series. The main characters haven't even made plans to try and reach Vinland and the current story arc (which has lasted for years) is just starting to make progress towards moving towards a new arc. I suspect that the mangaka plans to continue the series for years |

I doubt Vinland Saga will be as long as Hunter x Hunter or Berserk.
Hunter x Hunter is a shonen so those are usually long. The pacing is pretty fast throughout but each arc is more grand in scale than the last. I imagine it will have one or two more large scale arcs left. But it won't probably won't end up as long as the Big 3. Berserk is despite the action a slow paced story. That isn't to say it's boring. It spends a lot of this time with character development and world building. Sure you can sum up the Golden Age into a sentence but it wouldn't be the same experience for the reader. I personally think Berserk is on the final stretch but how long that stretch will be is another question. Vinland Saga is fast paced. People think that "Farmland Saga" is slow but this is because Thorfinn isn't hacking bodies. He's hacking weeds. It may seem "boring" but it's important character development for Thorfinn and the story won't likely make sense without it. However the action will definitely be picking up quite soon. The prologue will seem like a walk in the park. |

For those who are debating picking this up due to the potential length, the first large section of the story (known as the Prologue) is quite self-contained and works extremely well on its own. So you could always get the first 8 volumes and have a wonderful story right there. And then pick up the rest once it is near completion.
Personally, I'm glad that Yukimura is allowed to go into such depth with this lore. I felt that in his earlier work Planetes that it could have easily been a few volumes longer to explore more than just Hachimaki's POV of the Jupiter Mission. And I definitely want to thank Kodansha USA for bringing this title. For many, many years I have asked for it to be licensed, so I'll definitely be purchasing the volumes (and I love that they'll be hardcover) |

Just glad its coming out at all. After being released in other countries years ago I was beginning to think it wouldn't get a release at all.
