In other words, a solid B game punted down to D, if not F, because Ninja Theory tried and failed miserably to pull a gritty 90's comics reboot.
Really, this is a fair way to fall after Enslaved. |

Honestly I watched a video review or 2 for this and that alone put me off of ever playing it. I mean even in the small little clips for a video review it was F this and F that and just terrible immature writing. Now granted the original games were not known for their writing but it wasn't that bad it was more tongue and cheek instead of trying to be cool by dropping F bombs everywhere.
I will admit the combat looked decently fun but from what I have read it gets let down by the end by being forced to only use certain weapons for certain enemies which just kills any fun. Not to mention the ranking system being insanely easy. Had it not had that terrible writing I would have given it a shot(I planned to until I saw the videos and now I just know the game will annoy me with that crude crap) |

My feelings for this game before were pretty much apathy (I've never really cared to much for DMC as a franchise, despite numerous attemps, though I loved Bayonetta), after seeing lots of overwhelmingly positive reviews for it and hearing lots of personal accounts of people turning their opinions around after playing the game, I actually want to get this now.

So I take it this is another game that despite being good previous franchise 'fans' will hate for very shallow reasons?

I've also seen some positive reviews on this game but one review kinda stood out of it and it was Adam Sessler's review. I mean looking back at the previews, it looks fun, the art is nice, and you kinda get use to see a different looking Dante for a while. Until he opens his mouth. But what kinda puts me off is the cookie cutter rebel vibe going around in this game's story and even the characters. But at least this review is fair and pointed out that the script is trying too hard to be cool and rebellious. |

It's sad really.
The gameplay is fine. The combats are really fun, but it's the story thats disappointing. Ninja Theory are great at storytelling, and you can see some of it here... The story IS interesting, the motion capture animation and voice acting are great and there are some very strong scenes (There's a powerful scene with Kat that made me feel very emotional). BUT... like Dave said, they tried to be TOO edgy and vulgar and that's undermines every good part of the story. Last edited by drdr48 on Thu Jan 17, 2013 6:55 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Honestly, sounds like they're staying pretty true to the original games in that respect, but that's just me |

True it does stay faithful to the knit and grit of the original predecessors. But I feel they're trying to hard. The original Dante was a rebellious fellow, but what made him stand out was his cockiness and he was pretty funny to watch and play as. While this Dante is the worst offender to what makes a rebellious character a bad character.

this pretty much proves why NT had to bring along outside writers to do their scripts FOR them. Good GOD, this game's script is awful. DMC's 1-4 weren't exactly Tactics Ogre, but they had so much bloody self-awareness I was surprised you didn't see Dante, Vergil, Lady, Trish, and Nero sitting in the seats of a theater ripping THEMSELVES a new one. Dante was FUN, something that's become frustratingly rare in games as of late.

Dave describes very well what puts me off about this game. It has nothing to do with it being a poor DMC game or wherever, but it is just so gross looking and written with "fucks" everywhere just cause its "cool" and against the man. It just makes me kinda roll my eyes and go "Yeah, alright kid, you will grow out of it one day."

Jim Sterling over at Destructioid. A man who I respect a lot gave it a 9/10, so I really have no idea what to think. Go read it if you dont belive me! http://www.destructoid.com/review-dmc-devil-may-cry-242002.phtml |

How could you respect a guy who's reviews are often fine-tuned for maximum clickbaiting potential? |

I don't care if the game is fun, and has a great story. If I want fun, I'll just go back and play DMC4. That guy is not Dante. And no way I'd want to play as him. Cool characters are another very important part of games.

Kinda strange since he gave RE6 a 3/10, but 9/10 is too high of a score for DMC. |
