Even fantastic directors with impeccable records can still miss.

Was totally thinking about these two while having a ghibli mini marathon.
I wonder if they will be double billed like Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies were. Hopefully Ghibli will count 2012 as their break year though and we will see another movie in 2014.

I think both will be interesting, but it really sucks that these two will almost certainly have no global appeal. They will probably get localized by they way of how From Up on Poppy Hill did.

I'm simultaneously curious and hesitant about Miyazaki's movie "Kaze Tachinu", since it's a historical work revolving around the designer of WWII Japanese war planes. I realize Miyazaki is a lover of flight and that he's also a pacifist, but for a Japanese animator to write a story revolving around the designer of WWII Japanese fighter planes seems like it could be opening a can of worms.

Wow, I wasn't expecting both movies to premiere next summer. Miyazaki and Takahata must haver started working on them far earlier than I suspected.

Wow, exciting!! I'm really interested to see what "Kaguya-hime" will look like: we all know about the Ghibli "house style" but this poster makes it look like the film might be a little more adventurous with its visuals, more like "My Neighbors the Yamadas" than "Pom Poko".

I love Ghibli so much!!

I am sad to say I am looking forward to Takahata's film much more than Miyazaki's. The last few Miyazaki films have been pretty, but meh.

Really? The last few would include Spirited Away, which I think most would argue to be one of his very best. Otherwise you still have Howl, which many people love, and Ponyo, which he made specifically for a very young audience. Kaze Tachinu is supposedly a huge labor of love from Miyazaki and a story he's long wanted to tell. I'm pretty dang excited myself.

I'm a little underwhelmed so far. My impression would be summed up by saying that I think Miyazaki is getting old. This picture looks a lot like something somebody very old would draw.

While I love Miyazaki to death, I have to say I'm looking forward to Mr. Takahata's film more than Miyazaki's. I love the story of Kaguya-hime and I'm super excited that its going to animated by Studio Ghibli. I'll still go see Miyazaki's movie in theatres (if they get released in a movie theatre close by) but its probably the fact that its about airplanes that I might not be as interested but I do love history to death so I'm going to try my best to see it, but I'm totally going to see Kaguya-hime. But I'm super excited for these next movies! Can't wait to see them in subtitles! Very Happy

Part of me wishes Miyazaki would have gone out on a high note with Spirited Away. But hey, who knows, he might have another good movie in him yet.

I'm looking forward to these titles regardless of how well they'll do in Japan and else where. For a while I was curious what Miyazaki's next film will be about after hearing a couple annoucements that hinted what it be about. Right now I'm looking forward in seeing what the trailer will be about.

While I'm glad to see that Takahata's newest film in a while will be released the upcoming year. Not to mention it'll be released the same year as Miyazaki's own film marking it to be the first time they both released their own films since 1988. Except not released as a double billed feature like Totoro & Fireflies.

A part of me wonders how these films will end up being released stateside. A GKIDS release of both or would Disney jump at the chance for another film with Miyazaki in the director's chair? Disney's interest in the newer Ghibli fare has waned as of late, ever since they passed on From Up On Poppy Hill.
