Let's just hope that they will make the movie with respect toawrds the novel it's adapting.
I've seen lots of US films adapted from anime & japanese manga/novels and failed (DragonBall Evolution, Speed Racer, etc).

I wouldn't count on it. I haven't seen it so obviously this is speculation; but Tom Cruise is one of those stars who tends to have movies molded to fit him rather than adaption to fit the movie/role. Who knows, maybe this will be different, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Opinions are opinions but I personally thought the Speed Racer movie was awesome.

People aren't familiar with the original, so it wouldn't matter.
The only thing that'd matter is if they enjoy the movie.

That "Speed Racer" movie was a really fun movie, eventhough it didn't succeed at getting back it's $120 million budget back at the box-office.
