Different criteria. They're two unrelated awards, after all.

Arrietty or ParaNorman winning would be fine. As much as Hollywood loves to rub up on Pixar, Brave doesn't deserve a win with this competition.

Unrelated in a direct sense, but extremely related in an indirect sense. The golden globes are basically seen as the preview to the oscars, and along with BAFTAs are the closes estimates of oscar gold. And I dont think I've really seen a situation where one picture was eligible for one but not the other.

Maybe not in American/English films, but it probably happens more often with foreign ones, the ones we don't care about 99% of the time and never get mentioned again unless they win.

The Golden Globe doesn't seem to have the Oscar requirement that the foreign film has to be released in its original country within the 2-year window of the awards (Arrietty was originally released in Japan in 2010).

Bets on Wreck-It Ralph FTW.
