I think this is a good move for the franchise. I don't think the cast of any of the Disgaea sequels has been able to duplicate the chemistry of Laharl,Flonne, and Etna. Now more importantly, hurry up NISA and announce that you're going to localize this ASAP.

this game is good as pre-ordered day one. Hmm it's kinda nice to hear them going back to the roots instead of these characters being guest/hidden ones.

Well, this is dissappointing. I was hoping for a Disgaea 5 with a new set of characters designed by Harada once more.

I was so excited when I hear this get announced last night. It seems to be a direct sequel to Disgaea 1, easily the best of the franchise. Etna is my favorite video game girl, and anytime I get more of her, I'll be a happy camper!

The Happiness I feel right now cannot be expressed in words, I love the original Disgaea cast, seeing Laharl, Etna, & Flonne take center stage again for the series 10th anniversary. ALL OF MY YES!!!

This game is a DAY ONE, no no MINUTE ONE Purchase for me.

...Also reminds me I needa get off my lazy flank and download/beat the rest of the Disgaea 4 DLC content.

Also @Ryan: Agreed, Etna is best JRPG Demon Gal! Cool Very Happy

Really? I loved Disgaea 1 but the others clearly improved on it in every way. Of course, this game will have all of those features anyway, so I guess this could turn out pretty interesting.

I had honestly expected at some point that they would make a direct sequel to one of the games in the franchise at some point but to be honest I kinda wish it wasn't the first.

My personal favorite as far as characters and story goes was Disgaea 3(I found it the funniest and liked the characters in it far more then any of the other games despite loving all of the games). I wonder if they will be doing more of this with perhaps making a sequel to another one of the games in the franchise or if this is just one of those special times when it happens to go down.

Kind of feel like the story didn't really need a sequel. Things were wrapped up for the most part, especially with the best ending. I guess they can touch on Laharl knowing the truth about his dad, and with the humor, it can do padding for a normal length story, I guess.

I think its just a one time thing. At the press conference, they were saying that Laharl & Company were the ones that really put the company on the map, and they couldn't think of any way better to celebrate their 20th Anniversary than making a new game with that trio. So its basically celebrating the "Mascots" of the company.

I loved the anime very much so but never got to play game one or two but enjoyed game three very much! I am happy to see the main folks from the anime get a game! I just hope they really flesh out the story arcs and get the whole more than one ending down and the oh so many attack formations down.

I was a little disappointed by Disgaea 4 but played it any way. What I would love to see is a game set released allowing a player to play through 1-4 with the leveling tied into the games and some extras to help the story tie it all together!

but one can only hope. I so hope this get a us release!

I have to join the people who are excited for this.

Laharl and Co were by far and away the best cast, and honestly every character since its basically a modified copy of someone from the first game.

I also disagree it was wrapped up nicely. They are demons, they live for close to forever, laharl is still a kid, what will he do next? What will happen between laharl etna flonne? Has the tension with heaven subsided? To me if you can make sequels in the same world with different characters, you could easily make those sequels with the same characters. I am getting tired of companies passing off what are spinoffs as sequels. Disgaea 2-4 are spinoffs. A sequel is a direct or as close to direct continuation of a prior game with at least MCs of the cast repeating their roles as MCs. I dont care if they want to make spinoffs, but its clear often times people would actually like direct sequels, and this game is going to be awesome.

Now if only by the glory of Laharl we could get the Disgaea light novels in the US. It makes my head explode just from the few scant teasers I could find.

I appreciate the updated, slightly-older looking designs given to the main cast. (Hotpants Etna and Capris Laharl.) If anything, it would have been neat to see them even more updated than this, but any level of change is welcome.

That said, I really feel like the series as a whole does too much rehashing and has kind of stagnated. La Pucelle -> Disgaea brought a lot of change and innovation, but since then they've stayed incredibly formulaic. I'd love to see them take a few risks and expand on their ideas, and maybe having the safety of having their most popular cast center stage again will let them feel riskier on other aspects in the game.

Personally, I think Disgaea 4 had the best characters of the whole series, but 1 was a close second. 2 was third best (Adell's two siblings and Tink were weak characters, everyone else was solid especially Axell) and 3 was the weakest though still fairly good.

Also, I strongly disagree with the claim that the sequel's characters were just modified copies of the first game's characters, the only one with a lot of similarities was Laharl and Mao but even then there were important differences. Also, I felt Etna was a lot funnier in the 2nd game than she was in the 1st (where she was didn't measure up to Flonne, Laharl, and Gordon's hilarious moments).
