Hmm. Fractale is one of the few titles from the Noitamina block that I've haven't finished. Saw the first episode awhile ago but it didn't 'click' with me per say. I'll try watching again since Funimation has it online. The comparison with Brave New World certainly makes me more curious about the series.

I really wanted to like this show, but to me it felt rushed and underdeveloped. I also felt the ending was more confusing and random than prolific. It was an enjoyable enough watch, though - great dub and beautiful animation.

I'm honestly pretty shocked at the grades this series received, particularly Story: B+. I guess Rebecca and I have very different ideas as to what makes a good story, because while I thought some of the ideas were interesting, the way the story was actually executed was a catastrophe, IMO. It was disjointed, meandering, and didn't seem to know where it was going. I thouht the characterization was a mess, too. And the tone... holy crap that was all over the place. The series just reeked with Story By Committee.
Ah well, I guess there really *are* people who liked Fractale. I'm just not one of those people. As a guy who tends to love SF, I couldn't even finish this show.

Rebecca, the future we seem to be heading to is the one in which pieces of crap like Fractale get B+ grades, and reviews which hype up what little good there is and ignore most of the flaws.
I don't like this future.

B+, seriously?! I've had high hopes for this show in the beginning but in the end it basically came down to 'who cares if you live in a fake world without freedom as long as you can be together with a hot chick'...

One of my favorite novels as a freshman in high school was Huxley's Brave New World. And I didn't see anything in Fractale that reminded me of it. Granted, I gave up on the series after 4 episodes, but that was plenty of time for me to be absolutely disgusted with the series and its complete incompetence.

Glad to see this underrated and overbashed series get a positive review. People have called it uneven with wierd ending, and while I can kind of see what they mean I think they just fully expect it to be what it isn't rather than for what it is. I for one liked the world setting, I thought the characters were genuinely charming, enough to make me care and I liked the journey they undertook together, and I agree that it does feel like one long cinematic movie (the Funimation people feel the same way in the commentaries), one that engaged me from start to finish, a finish that left me feeling touched. Also, the OP/ED themes were great and beautiful as well. Very glad Funimation went through in bringing it over here and proud to have it in my library.

I liked Factale.
Sure, it wasn't the greatest but I enjoyed it. It was one of those that I like the concept behind it but I do have to say that the execution...left a lot to be desired.

I was shocked to see a pretty decent review of Fractale since it gets so much hate everywhere else.
I don't think Fractale itself is a terrible series, but it does have a few issues.
1. Episode Count
The biggest thing IMO against Fractale is that there just isn't enough episodes to tell the story. For something like Fractale I think 22 to 24 episodes would have been much better. It would have given more time to develop the world and develop some of the cast members especially the Lost Millennium people.
2. Lost Millennium
While I don't mind groups who oppose technology since everyone can't like it I would have seen more about why they do oppose the Fractale system. I mean yes we do find in the end that they want to keep the old ways around so people remember what it is like to do things before the Fractale system, but I just wanted to know how they started.
3. The System itself
Maybe it was mentioned and I don't remember even though I only watched it a few weeks ago, but I wanted to know more about the system. Why the system start to fail? It is because it's old? Why was it created in the first place?
So did I hate Fractale? No, I enjoyed it for what it attempted to do even if it fell shot of that goal. By my own scoring method I gave it a 3/5.

I will also stand up and say I liked Fractale. I was actually surprised to see how much hate it gets on the internets.
Sure, it wasn't great. It's not one of my favorite series or anything. But I found it enjoyable and watched it every week willingly. I didn't even particularly mind the ending. I thought it was fine, even above average sci-fi anime, if nothing special.
But there have been far, far worse shows much more deserving of hate in the past couple years than Fractale.

Couldn't agree more. Not only that, but when I look at some of the usernames of those who get apoplectic about Fractale, I notice some of them are posters whose taste and opinions I hold in no esteem whatsoever.

I liked Fractale as well. Quite frankly, I don't understand all the hate that it's getting. I wouldn't say that it's my favourite anime of all time, but I liked it enough to buy it. I agree that the ending could have been better, but that's pretty much the only thing that I disliked about Fractale.
