C+ is overly generous, after the Ichigo Byukuya fight and the Rescue Rukia arc ended, outside of a few chapters where Isshin was revealed to be a shingami and possible former captain this manga does not warrant higher than an F.

What's really depressing is that the big showdown between Ichigo and Aizen is one of the weakest battles in the series. After YEARS of buildup, it comes down to the same pattern as all the other fights: "ha ha here is my new super attack!" "Not bad, but here is my new EXTRA super attack which is stronger than yours! I win!" Except in this case, both combatants have transformed into utterly ridiculous looking forms that just makes the whole thing hard to take seriously. Aizen becoming a weird evil butterfly thing with eyeballs on his wings makes it look more like a french art film than a shonen manga. Terribly disappointing.

I am always surprised when the writers here at ANN gives a passing grade to a horrible work. Repeatedly handing out C grades to absolute crap devalues the grade.
A quick search of the website reveals that only twenty Anime have ever been rated as a D grade, while a mere four have been rated as an F grade.
It is okay to say that things are bad.

Yeah. At this point, I'm still reading Bleach almost purely out of stubbornness. I've come this far; so I might as well see it through to the end.

I'm very happy for the speed up Soon I'll be able to read where I left off with scanlations.
I really like Bleach, sure the story may be slow, but I think the battles are really interesting, and it's fun seeing all the different powers/swords of all the characters. Plus it's pretty to look at and funny at times.

When I think of volumes that were inessential to the overall story arc of One Piece, I can come up with one, maybe even two.
When I do the same for Bleach, I can come out with around ten or more, all from this arc. And recent developments in the manga render several of these fights even MORE meaningless. No wonder this series pretty much got the shaft from the SJ powers-that-be.

Another excellent review, Carlo. I have to imagine it's a very different experience reading Bleach as it comes out in translated tankobon format, which probably makes it easier to deal with the panel lay-out.
It's kind of sad, right after this week's ANNcast, how many comments deal with the letter grade given. It's easy to see why reviewers hate them.
If 45 is the volume that begins "Deicide" then I wish you the best of luck with your future review of the next Bleach GNs, Carlo

This, for me~ I'm not gonna buy the series halfway through and just not finish it, so I keep on buying.

If I understand you correctly, you're only continuing to buy the series because you've already bought forty+ volumes. In that case then, you're making the mistake of including sunk costs in your decision-making. You cannot recover those costs (unless you sell the volumes), so they shouldn't enter into your decision-making. If you are still enjoying Bleach then by all means keep buying it. But if your goal is simply to avoid 'wasting' the money you spent on the volumes you already own, then buying more volumes is just throwing good money after bad.
I dropped the Bleach Anime after something like two-hundred-seventy-three episodes. I had actually dropped it several times before then (usually when filler began airing), but kept on picking it up again. I did so because I didn't want to waste my investment in time and (in the case of buying the singles discs) money. In the end I realised that actually the story had long since gone down the gurgler and I just wasn't enjoying it anymore.

Wow! A lot of hate toward Bleach in these comments. Some are even about thing that don't happen here. Still the fight against Tosen was pretty good.

You'd be correct there. If I enjoy a series from the beginning then I will keep with it until it finalizes. Let's say I only enjoyed Bleach up through to, say, volume seventeen. It's completely worthwhile to me to buy the subsequent forty-plus volumes to see how the series does finish. However foolish it may sound, I'd rather do that than stop buying after volume seventeen or sell off those seventeen volumes.

To be honest, I really liked these two volumes. I just wish that Ichigo didn't spend half the time just standing there.

More Bleach is always a good thing nice to see that we will be getting to the Fullbring Arc here in America by the end of the year.

We've been more intrigued by the politics in Bleach.

I still enjoy Bleach quite a bit. While I don't have any of the vitriol most here seem to have for it, I do think these volumes would be intolerable if released at the old rate. But read in chunks at the rate they're being released now, I'm enjoying it. I'm probably a bit of a fanboy, but I honestly don't get the amount of hatred Bleach gets. It's not perfect or the best series ever, but it's plain good fun. I have way more issues with One Piece (which I also love) than I do Bleach.
