That's actually an adorable story and sounds like the start of some sports shonen manga.

Oh, Base Set Charizard. You were King [censored] of the Schoolyard if you had a Base Set Charizard in your possession. Not to mention a thief magnet.

I think this article has made the rest of my day. It's great how things can drive people towards a goal, no matter what form it takes.

And Jigglypuff inspired me to become a singer. It's just that I never went through with the dream.

Kinda reminds me of the first episode of Cardfight Vanguard. I wonder if he still has the card. If so, I totally want him to have it if he wins Gold!

Oh, does he mean a Charizard card likes this?

I got all the bitches in third grade.

Holographic Chansey got a lot of eyes, too. Kids are such a-holes.

In other news, a kid who stole a Chansey card from his classmate was inspired to become a secret agent. But that's another story.

But seriously this is an awesome story. Any form of inspiration is good as long as it drives you in the right direction (and nobody else in the wrong direction)

Man, I remember the exact moment, where it was and what time it was when I got my Charizard shiny from a booster pack back in those days. Totally awesome story. I wish him good victories!!

This is a very inspirational story. I'm kind of impressed that a Olympic athlete use Pokemon as a inspiration to become an athlete. I wonder if this story has been translated into Japanese so netizen in Japan would like to read this.

*somewhere at Nintendo of USA, an employee and Reggie Fils-Aime just finished reading this article and thinking about having Nintendo to be the sponsor of the Olympic alongisde Mcdonald, and Coca-Cola in the future to Satoru Iwata.*

I'll never understand how these stories end up like "and now we're friends". What the hell?

fudge that guy. If someone robbed me the last thing I'd ever do is be friends with him.

Remember, Nintendo does make the "Mario & Sonic at the _____ Olypmic Games 20__" video games.
