I know nothing about this one, but it sounds like my sort of show. I'm looking forward to it.

It seems every time I've checked ANN over the past two days, that Sentai has announced a new show.

It's still risky business licensing a show before it's even aired. I agree with cheap licenses years after a show's debuted, but again, how do you know these shows won't fall to pieces partway through and alienate/enrage the fanbase? It's kind of stupid to keep doing it; at least CrunchyRoll doesn't take on that portion of the risk, they're showing us the shows brand new and only at the cost of server use, not once we've already gotten to know and formed our opinions about them on a media that lives and dies by sales.

I seriously fear Sentai will put themselves under with all these licenses. It seems they are binge buying and have been for months.

Hmm...I wonder how many more of what CR announced are sub-licenses or associated with Sentai.

I wonder about that, too. Maybe Sentai has the contracts structured that they figure out what do with the home media release after looking at streaming numbers between TAN, CR and where ever else it's streamed. If CR sub-licenses these Sentai shows, that should help defray some costs.

Sentai has said before that they have been working out new types of deals with Japanese companies. Plus, they seem to be doing pretty well with these simulcast/delay cast deals, since they continue to do more each season. If they were facing issues with their sales, that probably wouldn't be happening.

Also it seems Sentai has some sort of arrangement with CR. That combined with their flexibility on dubbing, as compared to Funi and Viz, and the fact that they are closely tied with Anime Network likely limits their liability a fair bit should a title underperform. If the stream numbers are poor, they don't dub or do a bluray.

Maybe I'll pick this up. I already have the ED single on preorder anyways.

I can only interpret that is there's no, or an extremely inconsequential minimum guarantee involved. Without that initial barrier, grabbing up whatever is no issue.

For some titles that is true. Both Sentai and Funi had admitted as much. Though I wouldn't be surprised if in many of those cases that the Japanese committee would get a bigger cut of the sales.

Aside from Persona 4 which was really nice, if its not obvious now it should, that pretty much everything crunchyroll gets, Sentai grabs. I like crunchyroll's video player alot better, so I don't like how they stream it as well, and usually its even more delayed.

If CR is simulcasting it, what difference does it make if TAN streams it later?

And perhaps the reason CR has been able to get a lot more shows is probably because of their "deal" with Sentai.

So it's a win-win for everyone, for streamers-only and physical buyers.

Despite Funimation (at least when last asked during one of their online live sessions) stating their relationship with Nico Nico still existed, I suspect the "Nico" part of "Funico" is essentially dead. NicoNico.com had no simulcasts at all for the spring season, and I am expecting the same will be true for this season.
