Oh dear, I live in the UK and it looks like its going to get harder to download anime music without any problems Crying or Very sad

Question is, how are they going to know that you have downloaded copyrighted materials?

I wouldn't worry about it that much. Already the trenches are being dug by both sides so it's going to be furthur back than 2014, if ever. Rolling Eyes

In the US, this type of proposal is already into action and has been for years. At first there was resistance from the Internet service providers, but as soon as the word "liability" and "lawsuit" came into play, some of these ISP's quickly retracted from their stance and quickly provided as much information as they had.

Seems that all you have to say is the word lawsuit and then companies start listening.

i don't know how they know, but they know.

I got email from my ISP said that i downloaded ____ copyrighted movie, they told me to delete it.

My friend in school, he downloaded few mp3 and he got fined.

Easy: you downloaded it in cleartext, they sniffed the packets and found a match. Really, you should assume everything you do is monitored.

well gee i wonder what will happen if people go back to the old fashioned way of sharing media.. I mean lending dvd's to make copies or ripping a friends CD to your pc..all the law does is set things back but doesn't stamp or stop it.

Insofar as it has been adumbrated, one understands that the procedure of establishing a legal case requires a copyright holder to submit the initial claim to an ISP. The presumed costs concomitant with gathering required evidence and submitting official claims will prevent this abnormal system of policing from being comprehensive, especially in the cases of smaller companies and obscure content.

Similar legislation in the U.S. under the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA) were pulled off the Senate floor for revision in January.

and now Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA).
however three-strikes sounded like YouTube's community guidelines and copyright infringement.

I don't think they'd mind that at all.

Because the UK already has so much money to spare. ISPs here sure as hell won't want to move, not while almost diving into a second round of recession, and EU being broke as is.

Where exactly do they expect the money to come from? Government can't afford, ISPs would rather spend that money on lawyers as it's more beneficial in the long run (and let's face it, the guy leading BT is pretty smart compared to the people running this program), so perhaps the copyright owners themselves? Because I don't see a third party getting involved in this.

My guess is, out of this clusterfuck hot potato game they're doing with the responsibility to keep people from downloading, the copyright owners are the only ones with the money to chase this law. If illegal downloads had such a blow on the market they would've used their own money long ago.

Instead, why not create free content online? Everything available on TV put online with ads. People don't wanna pay anymore, and won't. Everyone except the younger generation learnt to save their money after this crisis.

Even if it passes and is enforced, they'll be targeting cinema and music industries first. And torrents, like formerly claimed. Anime downloads through IRC should be safe for another decade, I guess. If something is gonna hinder my anime downloads, that would either be American laws making fansubs disband, or Japanese laws stopping uploaders. But as far as uploading from Japan goes, it shouldn't be a problem if they supply raws through IRC or something.

On the other hand, this gives me an excellent business opportunity. I'll create an ISP limited to 399,999 subscribers and become filthy rich.

You were taking the piss there, yeah? Wink

the UK coalition government has been stuck in stale mate for months just trying to agree on getting ISPs to filter regular porn from homes with children with no agreement between parties, and even front and back benches of the same party. This will be just another talking shop that ends up in the same political traffic jam as the rest.

Full sarcasm intended. Wink

Government has much more urging matters at the moment. When the head of the spider is too dumb to coordinate its numerous legs, progress only exists at random directions. Pretty much the very definition of the UK as of now, unfortunately.

Not related to anime, but I hope this doesn't affect music fandom too much. I really like Britrock and I usually listen to music by Youtube; I check the official channels when I can although a lot of the stuff I listen to isn't. But I don't see people in music forums getting upset about this, so maybe there's nothing much to this.
