I guess my ecchi collection is small compared to the guys who actually know their ecchi enough to notice stuff like this.

2ch has been making a big deal about this, but I don't really see why it matters. This stuff is probably done a lot to save time, and theres only so many different poses a character can use.

Read Kouki's response and got a laugh out of it.

Still think this is incredibly downright stupid as they're have been a boatload of promo material like this that could have been "traced."

Sad to see Sou go but I could see why they did it. One of my favorite artists at age.

inb4 everything gets drawn by Bou now. Gundam heads, gundam heads everywhere.

Good artists copy, great artists steal.

I can see why they have to fire Sou but this just makes me question how many more promo have been "traced".

The key is to not make it so obvious so you can get away with it Laughing

Sad to see him go over something like this, especially as there's only so many poses that one can do with the human body. Hopefully this won't blackball Miyata from the industry. He seemed like a decent person when I picked up a couple sketches from him at AX 2010 (IMO, his sketches were not as good as the other artists that MangaGamer brought over).

So, in Miyata's absence, who steps up to the plate? Kyousuke Himukai?

That's what I wonder. With the amount of ecchi out there, people have bound to overlap the same sexy poses. Only so many ways you can push your boobs together with your arms seductively.

Borrowing a pose is one thing --- tracing over someone else's work is completely different. I agree that even great artists draw inspiration from a lot of different sources, but outright tracing another artist's work is basically mooching off another artist's skill, which is frowned on in the art community.

And the image really does look traced --- the pen and color outlines are too consistent between the images to just be coincidence. A real artist borrowing a pose would naturally render the perspective and anatomy differently from the reference material, to the point where the linework and coloring would hardly match up at all.

I can't bring myself to take arguments of the "there are only so many poses" and "so many poses have already been used" sort seriously - I can understand similarities - your day sucks, you can't come up with something 100% original, you use parts of your reference material as your own, but every single:

1. body curve angle
2. the way each finger is bent
3. the shadows - for example, the shapes of small patches of light on the girls' bodies

too? That's overkill.

P.s. In fact, the things I mentioned I'm only applying to two girls, the lying girl (for better or worse, I'm not familiar with any of the girls, except Ryofu) is the only one I'd give a pass - that kind of change to the hairstyle and clothing tones it down enough, at least because the shadows would already differ too much to just be copied. The other two, however, are bordering on plagiarism.

This makes me kind of bummed as a big Age fan.

I mean, I love Bou's art (GP02 heads and all), but Sou's style and character designs gave everything a nice breath of fresh air, in addition to his contributions to helping with animations in their numerous VN.

Only the anime studio is letting him go from doing promos. Says nothing about Age.

He's too important there for them to let him go over something minor like this, I think.

Oh is that all? My bad, guess I should've read the article closer.

That's perfectly fine by me. I thought that seemed a weird to warrant letting him go considering all he's done for Age...

How embarrassing. Caught cheating by the Internet & called out for it. It takes some balls to try to get away with something like that IMO, because it really is obvious.
