at first i thought i shouldnt get excited since we probably wont get this brought over here since we didn't even get the first one...then i saw this https://twitter.com/TalesofU/status/208894137372647424 guess that means were in for a tales of xillia announcment at E3. Very Happy as for the trailer it looks good...but the main design just bugs me from what we saw of him and he looks like a grown up ruka maybe im just being nitpicky.

...I don't like the various weapon choices or the design.

I mean, Tales has unique characters who have their own style...and by giving one character 3 weapon choices kinda takes away from having another good character with that style...

eh i dont mind it since its giving us alternate endings from the sound of it and depending how its used alternate endings can be very good. as long as we get more party members as it goes (aka 8 or 7) then its all good. curious what ties it has to the original though. and yeah like you i dont like the MC's design it just looks kinda bland in comparison to the other tales MC's though maybe its cause the artist they got is the artist for the tales that flopped the hardest and is the worst out of all of them tempest.
edit: oh and slight correction thats the offical tales of twitter account not namco bandai.

To be honest, I rather have Tales of Vesperia PS3 get localized instead of Xilla and Xilla 2. Mainly because of the stuff Xilla passed on and with Xilla 2.....I just....don't like it. If I want to be a gunner, I'll use the gunner character.... not just switch my weapons. This just gives people a reason not to try other character fighting styles.

i love vesperia just as much as the next guy heck its what got me interested in tales but i'd rather have a brand new game then a updated port of a old one even if the first xillia was kinda rushed. again im being optimistic about xillia 2 the sheer premise of alternate endings is interesting enough and the combat looks better then ever even if the art and coloring isnt heck we only know three party members so far and nothing else.

I agree with this, if I want to use certain weapons I'll play a character that uses those weapons, because that character has been designed around it. It suits them. This is also what worries me about changing the story and endings as you go.

I hate the "create your own story" crap we get with newer RPGs, letting you customise more and more. I want to be TOLD a story that has been brilliantly written with interesting characters, not make my own crappy version.

I hope there aren't too many alternate endings.

Not bad. It could be the poor quality video, the character models look a little worse than Xillia.

So, since the MC wields two guns (and doesn't need to realod), he should be a god right?

So is Rudger (MC's name apparently) gonna be like Dante from DMC3 with different styles?

Funny, I love that style. It was invented BECAUSE people were getting sick of simply being told the story and not feeling like they were really controlling their own character. I will concede that it's rarely done correctly (*cough*MASS EFFECT*cough*) however.

Also, more customization is always good in RPGs in my opinion.

I can understand this, but I think its more because we've become less satisfied with RPG storylines. People have no problems naming brilliant RPG stories from past generations, but have more trouble when you ask about current RPGs. Tales of Vesperia is one of the only recent ones where I actually cared about the storyline and I'd hate to loose that.

I don't think people are bored of being told a story, if they were books and movies wouldn't sell. I think people are bored of being told the terrible stories that have been plaguing recent RPGs, and certainly recent JRPGs.

Well, that's the whole idea of dating sims too. Laughing

My gripe is this doesnt sound like a sequel to me, more like a spinoff, just because its set in the same universe doesnt mean its a sequel.

How hard is to make a sequel, you know you take the character from game 1 that people liked and put him in game 2, not very. Its called the Ys series.

The trailer that surfaced does make me more enthusiastic for this game. I like the incorporation of choice into my JRPGs and if this game comes with alternate endings, all the better. I like the Tales series and I think it will be interesting. However, considering that I think character interactions are my favorite thing about the Tales series, I agree with CrownKlown that this doesn't look like a sequel. I don't see any of the original game's cast, but I also haven't played it and don't want to get spoilered on a potential ending that may prevent them from returning. They did this with Symphonia's sequel - I played that game for the party from the first game, not for downtrodden Emil, his stalker, and Tenebrae (who was actually funny). I wish the Tales producers would take a chance on bringing back the old cast in a sequel.

I prefer the cel-shaded look of Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia to this. Also, the battles look more like a fighting game than the melee combat I'm used to. (Yeah, the melee combat has more action than the total menu-based fighting of traditional JRPGs, but it's still nothing like playing a fighting game for people with crappy reflexes like myself.)
