Good grief. At 10 episodes, this anime was half filler. Filler in a short-season anime is inexcusable.

Wait, what? Was this meant to happen or is this something they decided on just recently?

i get the feeling that of the dead will be a split cour series and the second half will air in the fall and that might explain why most of it has just been a comedy and doesnt have much of a plot like S1.

Hard to say until the announcement. With only 10 episodes of mostly filler though, it seems like a pretty bad idea to try these kinds of stunts so I would guess that this wasn't part of the original plan.

Sources such as Fansub Wiki listed it early on (i.e., before it premiered) as 10 episodes, so this isn't a recent development, just a confirmation.

the only reason zombie even got a 2nd season was because it boosted light novel sales. the disc sales were decent at best but S2 looks to be atrocious..so it would be dumb to make a recap movie. as i said before given the timing and with split cours becoming the trend its probably going to be a announcment about it being a split cour show (aka a show that was divided between seasons think fate/zero).

It's been known for a while that it'd only be 10 episodes, or at least MAL knew since they've had it marked as such since before it was announced, so it didn't get cut off or anything.

"special announcement"?

Either movie(s) or another season.

It was always 10 episodes. 5 volumes, 2 episodes each. The only thing unusual about this is how far ahead they were solicited. Normally the BDs go up for order around the time the show starts, but they were put up for order back in January or December. So this was clearly planned to be this length.

Interesting, so why exactly is it so lacking in any real content? Kohii was right, it was half filler, or at least felt like it.

It was announced a couple months ago with the BDs were put up on Amazon... they only listed 5 of them at 2 episodes a piece.

I'm not familiar with the source material and I'm way behind on this season, so I have no idea how much of it was "filler". If it is, I would assume that it means there was a limited amount of story content from the novels they could cover with only one additional season (and maybe a movie or OVA to finish it off).

No idea about the announcement but my main criticism of the first season was that the comedy was great and the serious half almost killed it, so I was mostly happy with the almost exclusively comedy approach this season... except it somehow didn't make me laugh as much. hmmm.

I generally don't think a series should always be defined by a season length though. And if you were upset that this "season" seemed liked excessive padding that probably serves as an extended introduction to a more serious story to be announced later, shouldn't you be happy that they're cutting it off now instead of adding 2-3 more weeks of tsundere contests and birthday parties?

Let's not forget that the series will be 11 episodes total, but the last episode won't be aired on TV. It will come as a bundle with the Manga volume 6 to be released on 10/20 this year. Even though this last episode will be a filler episode, like the last episode of the previous season. You can watch the CM here.
