Well, this has given me some new choices as far as anime watching goes.
I am sad you disqualified Eva. The series, I understand, but how could you discount End of Evangelion, which is nothing but the apocalypse?
I'm also fairly miffed your poll doesn't include the bunny girl from Gainax's Daicon animations. When I think of "bunny girl", that's the first thing I think of, yet you have Haruko from FLCL in there, who is blatantly parodying the Daicon bunny girl.

For original and certainly not boring apocalypses, there's Sai Kano's Apocalypse by teenage Japanese girl- Yeah, from the start of the series, almost everyone's death can be traced to one Moe girl. She's kind of clumsy, she's nice, she's a caring girlfriend and she kills all of Japan's enemies.
For a honorable mention, I'd list Heaven's Lost Property and apocalypse by pervert. Wow, one wrong wish and everyone dies. Some people can't take a joke.
Before looking at the poll, my bunny choice was Flying Bunny. I'm not going to mention which show she's from but she's the bunny girl to end the need for any and all bunny girls. Not on the poll.

Why does it have to be a bunny girl? If either were an option, I'd choose Sebastian or William from the Black Butler Ciel in Wonderland OVAs. But since they weren't, I voted for Rabi~en~Rose.
Also I agree about the Daicon bunny girl.

Basara took place after the apocalypse as well, but the anime adaptation wasn't very good.
Now if only 7Seeds could get an anime or live-action series
I'd also say The Drifting Classroom but would it count as an apocalypse?

Just for the sake of the joke I voted Hayate in the bunny girl thing.
It's nice to see Casshern Sins on the list since it was pretty depressing apocalypse. I'm kinda sad Fist of the North Star didn't make the cut though. It's a pretty screwed up apocalypse when just about every named person in the show other than the heroes is an irrideemable prick

I picked Kallen from Code Geass for best bunny girl without any doubt.

Agreed. I would've voted for Barnaby "Bunny" Brooks Jr., given the opportunity.

Yeah, it's not enough for there to be a near-apocolypse, the series has to show it too. Fist of the North Star is probably a decent pick too (haven't seen it), and I thought Casshern Sins did a pretty good job of showing the decay of things, unlike some other shows where you'd never know there was a disaster if they hadn't told you. Oh, and maybe this doesn't count (haven't finished it yet. Someday!) but I thought the atmosphere in Trigun was fairly well done, all things considered.
Re: the poll, I'd just like to note that I was surprised B-Rabbit/Alice from Pandora Hearts isn't on the list. I'm not sure I'd vote for her, but still a little surprised. Wrong type of Bunny Girl?

Amnesia, D: Bloodlust AND King of Thorn?
Great choices, glad to see more of the well known ones were left out (not that they are bad, they just happen to always have an immediate saved spot).

What about whole bunch of series: Trinity Blood -- akin to D vampires took over the Earth. Planet Kiss Doom -- akin to Starship Troopers, the Earth was take over by mystical bug creature, which reminds the classic -- Blue Gender, Dancoguar, Mospeada, well, Macross (zero and original), there some more if remembered.

I only wish there was ground to include the "Future" portion of "Hi no Tori/Phoenix" in here. It wasn't the entirety of the series, but considering the series is a collection of separate stand-alone stories (that connect subtly with one another), it probably could have worked by itself.
I mean, for one, it's Tezuka. There's so much to learn from him about anime and manga in general. But I haven't read such an intricate short apocalypse story in a loooooong time.

Quote: | Two shout-outs for Gainax, who always seems to know another way for the world to end. In this case we're talking about: 1) Evangelion, whose alien/angel/Human Instrumentality Project set-up continues to aggravate fans and spark debates to this day (disqualified because a good chunk of humanity lives for most of the series, and there's just not enough room in these lists to go through the ending) |
Have you not seen The End of Evangelion (which for me puts any and all aggravations to rest)? I don't think a depiction of an apocalypse gets any better or more epic and strangely beautiful than this.
