Really thinking about giving this series a try. Could I just jump into Atelier Rorona/Totori/Meruru without playing some of the really early games?

Yeah you can. Atelier Rorona is the first in the series I've played, and that worked out just fine. I know that the Rorona/Totori/Meruru games are all intertwined...but you can play those three without playing any other games. And I'm pretty sure this new one is supposed to be the beginning of a new set.
