I've wanted to see this movie for YEARS, but was never able to because we only got that heavily edited Clash of the Bionoids version in the US on VHS.
And I doubt this will include english subtitles, so I'm not sure if I'll bother importing it. And as long as Harmony Gold keeps hoarding the Macross trademark, this will never officially see the light of day in the US. I am sad

They really should add English subs so that American fans could own this legally.
But either way, I'll be importing this.

I'm going to own this regardless of no English Subtitles, you be a fool not too, if you truly love the original Macross.
It may not be Harmony Gold's fault they can't fully release the original Macross and it's more on the Japanese License Company that owns it. But could you really blame the Japanese, the Macross Movie is a masterpiece of its' time.
Plus, I highly doubt Harmony Gold is really making any kind of money even with those re-released sets of the Robotech series through A&E.
I do wonder sometimes, if Harmony Gold was given a second chance with the entire Macross Franchise, I would like them to seriously take it to the next level of promoting it efficiently for the sake of selling as many copies as possible. But in order to do that, they need to work with a company that has a high sell rate of their videos and right now it's only FUNimation and slightly Sentai Filmworks (Which is highly unlikely).
Don't get me wrong Harmony Gold, I love Robotech (and I do own the Robotech Box Sets, minus Shadow Chronicles Movie) when I was younger, but I need more Original Macross.
The concept of the original Macross maybe stupid to this generation of folks, but to me it is a series that's undeniable a class of its' own with not only it's melee dog fight scenes, it's unique mechanical designs, but also the music that was cheerful and heartwarming to my soul at the same time.
Sure it's corny for Mecha Shows to have 'Love Songs', but Super Dimensional Fortress Macross does it right, I say.

I haven't been so excited for a video release in a long, long time. ^^; I'll definitely import a copy, or two, or three even if there are no subtitles (which I'm not expecting to see on the disc), but I am disappointed that the included game will mean that I can't import it from AmazonJP. ;_; I wonder if one of HMV's multi-buy discounts will apply to DYRL. Will I actually have to pay something close to MSRP? ^_^;
This will be a triple-dip for me, since I bought the CAV LD set, and the original DVD release (in a jewel-case in a LD-sized box). I saw no point to buying the HD-remastered DVD release from a couple of years ago...

Epic, epic boxset. DYRL in BLU-RAY QUALITY. Awesome I must say. I'm definitely gonna buy this. I bet that they've really improved the sound quality of the film. Can't wait to watch DYRL in Surround Sound on my home theater.

LESS than $200?! Y'know, if this isn't terribly limited, I might have a chance of getting it.

so THIS is why Zac was grousing about DYL the other day, most amusing... but did they restore it? IIRC the original wasn't that fabu, and it's been a long time, hopefully it will look good in that new old fashioned way.

The inability to release a proper official North American home version of this film is one of the greatest travesties in anime history.

The standard retail price associated with this is not beyond reason, as odd as it may be to state this. I paid a similar amount in order to import the existing R2 DVD.

I think I will import this because I had promised myself to buy this once it came out on BD. And it helps that it's so cheap, I was expecting the film alone to cost more like ¥12k. It's my favorite anime film, and one of my favorite anime overall. It just hurts that the news breaks for us on the same as its radical director passes away, really turns the whole wait and anticipation into a bittersweet affair.
As for subtitles, I don't need them anymore. I can watch this thing raw. I'm glad they're including the Flash Back OVA, that was always meant to be the true epilogue to the story and contains some scenes left out of the film proper. Hearing that the movie originally ended with Minmay's "wan tuu suri foa-" is just weird, it absolutely needed her concert to tie it all together.

No multi-buy discount since it'll most likely be listed as a game like the other Macross hybrid pack movies. So, the price will be 10% off MSRP.
Amiami might be another option since they discount their games anywhere from 10-15% (they don't remove the 5% sales tax though...so HMv might be cheaper) and they do offer shipping options besides EMS.

If it's anything like the Frontier movies, the game itself will INCLUDED on the movie disk if you play it on a PS3.
I preordered the CE as soon as it was announced, believe it or not.
