If you're not fluent in Japanese, I recommend going through a deputy service. Some of them will waive their commission fees for charity auctions.

But that being said, these charity auctions have been going on for the past year. I've managed to win a couple of these sketches, though, some of them do end up going for several thousand dollars (..not the ones I won, though...).

I would not be surprised if the Chihayafuru one sold quite high.

Surprised the Chihayafuru illustration is currently more than twice as high as the board with a lot of different artists' signatures (including Umino's and Suetsugu's).

Yahoo Japan has been running a lot of charity auctions over the past year for various groups, all of which have benefited the earthquake/tsunami survivors. Lots of artists have contributed artwork and comics, most notably Mayumi Azuma (Erementar Gerad mangaka) whose artwork and signatures have been featured from Sep-Jan.

To me, it makes sense why the single drawing items are going higher than the multisigned shikishi, and that's simply because it's a complete drawing. If you're a fan of the series, you'd much rather go for something really high end like that in lieu of an item signed by several mangaka. Of course, the prices reflect that - one of them is currently at 161,000 yen.

Umm..... Okay, but I'm not quite sure how this relates to my reply. ^^;; I just linked that page because you were mentioning using proxies to bid. ^^; I didn't mean that I've never heard of charity auctions on Yahoo! Japan, LoL. *lives in Japan and regularly bids on auctions via Yahoo!*
