Wow, I had no idea that any bit of Kosaku Shima was ever released in North America, nor did I even know about the Kodansha Bilingual Edition. I admittedly will likely never read it, but I have to admire the idea behind it, where Kosaku Shima keeps going up the corporate ladder, and every time he does the currently-running series ends followed by the start of the new series. It's definitely a novel idea.

I was able to pick up a used copy of Kosaku Shima, which was pretty interesting. It is very sad that we don't have access to more works on office life (whether salarymen or office ladies). It could go a long way towards expanding the American market for manga and anime if there were something that older people could relate to.
BTW, another series to check out is Salaryman Kintaro. There was a US release of the animation a few years back, but I don't think the manga has ever seen an American release). |

Actually, Salaryman Kintaro has come out in English, but only in a really badly translated cellphone manga edition from NTT Solmare. I wish it was available in a decent format. |

Actually, it's available for Apple products too, as my friend bought all 30 volumes of Salaryman Kintaro for his iPad... He also admitted that it cost him a pretty penny in the end, but he felt it was worth it as he really enjoyed it. |

I remember back in the late 1980s at a convention in Glasgow where at the last night 'dead dog party' a Japanese attendee passed around a few issues of a manga he'd brought with him.
"Oh wow!", we thought, "Comics about cooking!" It was the first time any of us had ever seen any manga. (must avoid lapsing into Four Yorkshireman sketch...) |

Forgive me,but a business manga? That seems just a little bit weird to me. And to be honest,I can't imagine any businessman wearing an American flag business suit to a business meeting. That's a little bizarre to me. But then, this whole genre is a bit strange to me too.

There's manga about pretty much everything. Mahjong, card games, pretty much every sport you care to name, cooking. I could go on. Business is probably one of the least strange kinds, to be honest. |

Sadly, not much has improved for the average Japanese working women. |

The manga industry is in a rut as it is. Not even manga about salarymen and business corporations will be enough to appeal to older folk, sad as it is. Though, more manga releases in different genres would be great... This book looks interesting to me, wish it were still around. |

I may be wrong, but I think that Salaryman manga is like the 2nd buggest manga genre in Japan. |
