This is very exciting news. While I've only seen 11 episodes of Brotherhood, I did enjoy what I saw, and I'm enticed to continue.

I noticed that while the original was a bit darker and more emotional from the start, this version is more fluid in its action and animation. Plus, it's a direct adaptation of manga canon; which is definitely a good thing.

This is not always a good thing... and I don't particularly think it's a good thing for FMA.

I'll probably end up getting this, mostly for the Izumi short and Ishbal short.

True, it's not always a good thing. But I'm gonna go a head and say I strongly disagree with it being a negative, in FMA's case.

Now, if you're saying that the original manga itself was of questionable quality, then you've truly surprised me. The manga was a profound tale with engaging, varied-dimensional characters and great action. If you mean the Brotherhood adaptation, even though I've only seen so little, and admittedly I've heard it wasn't completely up-to-par when compared with the original, I've gathered it was still an excellent series. (Even having benefits of its own, when compared to the original.)

Do Want. Great animes deserves OVAs, movies, sequels, spinoffs. Brotherhood is probably one of the best animes I've ever seen.

I recommend the manga also tbh

I can't say it wasn't a good thing; the original manga is a great story and it deserved to be animated as it was and that came across more or less in Brotherhood, which is a very good anime. Unfortunately, the first 12 episodes are a mess, and I just find myself liking the first FMA anime on the whole more than Brotherhood and I find it did some things better.

It's going to be a DVD/Blu-ray combo set.

I initially thought the first anime series was better, but not after about 10-15 episodes into Brotherhood. Brotherhood had a far better ending, and the most epic "death by fire" combat scene in any anime that I've ever scene. Roy, man . . .

I've read it's gonna be $15. If that's the case, this will officially be the first Blu-Ray I've ever owned. Hopefully I get to watch it that way someday too...

It's not a direct adaptation of the manga. There is A LOT of missing material, lots of stuff gets moved around, and there is some original material. It's not a very good adaptation. It should have been much better than it was.

I agree, I don't like the first FMA anime at all, but I'm not very fond of Brotherhood either. For some reason BONES couldn't do justice to the manga... and they tried twice, more or less.

I'll buy this DVD/BD combo if it's released in the UK or Australia (my compatible regions) anyway even if I already have the OVAs in my Japanese DVDs. I'm a completist and all.

It's hard for me to say which series I like better. But I do think that the first series did a much better job introducing and building relationships with characters than Brotherhood did.

The early episodes of Brotherhood are probably the worst in the series due to the fact that the creators most likely didn't want to rehash episode content from the first series. While I can't say that I'd enjoy them passing off old episodes as new ones, I sort of felt cheated out of some story and development early on in Brotherhood.

After Brotherhood got past the point that the first series diverged from the original story, however, it slowed down and got more enjoyable, imo. But it is still hard to say which one I like better.
