And Ghost Rider will make double, if not triple its box office.

Disney must be banking on the reputation of The Borrowers children's novel series if they have a 1500+ theater release count for The Secret World of Arrietty.

Arrietty is looking at a $2m Friday which, given the Saturday boost for family films, will likely be a $6-7m weekend. It'll likely place at #6 or #7 for the weekend, which is pretty good for a Ghibli film.

If such is the case, it's more than capable of earning more than Ponyo, the current highest grossing Ghibli film in the states with $15 million-plus.

Ggultra: I'm guessing they're hoping the word of mouth will help it. Who knows? Next weekend's just got another Tyler Perry movie and Wanderlust as notable additions. But one guy in front of me really wanted to see Act of Valor, so that could be a surprise hit.

This a long weekend with President's Day, plus many schools have winter break next week, so there'll be more opportunities for families to see it.

In any country. Even Japan's top-grossers aren't necessarily the best acclaimed.

That still reminds me, is there a Japan version of Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic? We need more regular Japanese critiques like Siskel and Ebert. Laughing
