Discotek's quickly becoming the anime company that's captured all of my attention.

It's great to see a lot of older anime shows getting licensed. Hopefully the Cobra series from 80's gets picked up sometime, as well.

I believe this movie also has a BluRay release in Japan, and the original TV series as well, since I see the 1080p fansubs popping up here and there.

When they say English, I hope they mean the UK one with the Yello music.

Not the best part of the Space Adventure Cobra property, at least in my experience, but it's an interesting piece of history all the same.

They said on their Facebook that it's the Streamline dub but that they will try to get the UK dub as well.

In this era of streaming and hi def optical discs, I still look for the older stuff on VHS. Since Hayao Miyazaki has key animation credit in this, I'll be picking it up just to see a bit of anime history.

This is pretty awesome! Discotek has just become 10% more awesome! This movie looks pretty cool! Cool

I didn't know there was a Streamline dub. The only one I had heard of was the MangaUK one that was reused for Urban Vision's US release.

I already have the UK release of this, but I'm glad to see another western licensor take interest in the property. If Discotek get the TV series, I would be over the moon - I'd buy that in a heartbeat! Very Happy

Guess it's time to bring out Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" again. Laughing

Discotek i love you for making me remember why i became an anime fan in the first place. Something most of the recent anime did not accomplish for me.

The story in the movie is epic, I prefer it over the tv series, much more serious in tone, very little comedy and has lots of sad moments.

Now all we need is Lensman.

Good to see Discotek finally getting to the well of former licenses from the distinctly moribund Urban Vision. Hopefully, there will be more to come since UV allowed quite a few of their licenses to expire before releasing them on DVD. If they don't announce a new edition of Wicked City this year I'll be very surprised!

The Cobra movie isn't my favorite part of the animated franchise, as I much prefer the more science-fiction grounded TV series rather than the more fantasy-orientated movie, but this is nevertheless a very welcome and long-overdue license rescue.

There are indeed two dubs. As far as I know, Urban Vision never released the Manga UK dub in the US, but confusingly, Manga UK released both in the UK; their original dub on VHS, and the Urban Vision/Macek dub on the more recent DVD. Clearly, the rights situation with the Yello songs on the UK dub makes it difficult to re-release, although that dub did make it to the French DVD release of the movie a while ago.

Area88: Lensman probably depends on whether or not the copyright on the original story still holds. There were plans announced for a Hollywood movie a few years ago.

If they do decide to license Wicked City, it'd also be interesting to see if they include both US and UK dubs for that as well.
