Uh, if you've read Van Vogt's Space Beagle stories then you know what Coeurl's eat. It isn't pleasant. Luckily for the Lovely Angels the bear-cat is not a Coeurl, or at least wan't engineered by the same (extinct) race as the Van Vogt story. Mark Gosdin |

I was a touch surprised to see ICE put on the the rental shelf and moreso that it was a good ending away from being shelf worth, but I think I understand the choice. I really like the tone and style of old school science fiction OVAs, even if they aren't properly 'good'. Hell, I enjoyed watching Gall Force: Eternal Story, if though most that is a dull mess. It also has an alluring 'what the Hell?' quotient. I don't care about AKB48 per se, but the anime projects that they've been implicated look intriguingly bizarre.
The question about the unexpected film version's length was raised in the discussion thread for the announcement and Theron Martin offered an explanation:
I once bought a randomly chosen volume, I think that it was the second one, of the old ADV release of the Dirty Pair OVA series. I recall having enjoyed it, but not loved it. Even so, I could imagine revisiting it to see if I'm keener on it now; it's certainly a modest enough investment that I could risk it. Oh Erin... If you think mashima's bad now it gets worse. I'm pretty sure mashima continuously trolls the fandom on purpose because he enjoys it and keeps just enough plot threads open so that people can think that there is an actual story going on. While i don't mind it i doubt any sane person such as yourself would be able to stand it for very long. While i do keep up with the show i love how anal the fans get about certain events that occur because they dont realize what mashima is actually doing. Its all an elaborate scam really

The sleek and deadly Mughi is featured prominently in the books [and on the book covers]. I guess they thought a lazy, lighthearted version of Mughi would play better to the TV audience?

Like any Final Fantasy player, I've fought my share of coeurls. (Blaster can be a pretty deadly attack against insufficiently-levelled characters.) Thanks for giving me the original reference, Erin.

I have ICE and wish I didn't. I saw a trailer ages ago and it looked cool, so I put it on my "ta have" list. Bad mistake.
Anime shelves --- Nice collection!! Out of curiosity, what is your favorite anime in your collection? |

I wouldn't be embarrassed about those shelves. You have quite a few nice things and even some rarities. I like the Shana, Taiga, and Yoshika figures. Then with the Toradora and Wagnaria Premiums which are both OOP now. Then there's Familar of Zero and When They Cry which I'm sure quite a few people would like to get their hands on. Even something I wish I could get: the full size Love Hina set with the specials. Also a Tomoyo visual novel. Not bad at all.
I will further compliment you that your pictures aren't awful quality either. Sometimes when looking at some of these shelf images it feels like I have double vision because the pictures are either blurry or show signs of ghosting. It's nice to see some clear, clean images! |

I hope you review the Dirty Pair feature OVAs and film, those are pretty damn great as well. For the OVA series, the budget is immense and the character designs are much better than the TV series, they're meatier and buffer, and the hair is more striking with vibrant contrasting color from the red to blue. It's amazing how much tonal shift you get during that series as well, from the wacky episodes like the Halloween and casino, to the war-torn planet and the wedding.

As far as I'm concerned the only thing you'd be "missing" with the AKB48s is the truly terrible voice acting.
Stop stunt-casting pop stars, anime. I know it hasn't happened too frequently, but even that is too much. |

Couldn't have put it better myself. Truly what's wrong with the series in its current form. |
