But for every purchase, how often is this series downloaded illegally or read online for free? Now that is statistic I bet Funimation noticed some time ago.

Even so, it is still doing huge numbers.

They're very aware. Now Toei on the other are playing hard to get.

And the gnashing of teeth over at the DC offices for the New 52 continues. Guess people aren't listening to Robama.

Don't Toei Animation play hard to get with everything?

Hardly, Bookscan does not include sales from Diamond comics which is the primary seller of DC and Marvel titles. Then you have to figure in that TPB are not the primary selling method for DC and sells 10x as many monthly floppys and monthly digitals as collected additions. Marvel and DC are still selling way more units then the Japanese importers.

I actually saw vol 3 at Walmart the other day! I was shocked! It's the ONLY manga besides Naruto that I've ever seen sold there! Must be a great honor for Sailor Moon to get there Smile

Can you even still call it the 'New 52' anymore given how many titles were cancelled?

None of the New 52 books are going to be getting collected editions until May at the earliest.

So there's nothing from there to PUT on the chart yet...

So....

Quick question: the article says that Black Butler #12 is on the chart, but the most recent volume of that series to come out was Volume 8 (back on January 24).

So would the Black Butler volume on the list be Volume 7 or Volume 8?

EDIT: I just clicked on the link to the ICv2 article, and saw that it should be Volume 8.

I saw you made a correction to the article, but now I have correct your correction. You changed the volume number on Black Bird, when the correction should have been made to Black Butler.

Sorry if I'm coming across as nit-picky.

EDIT: All right, I found another error for Black Butler.

Looking at the list at ICv2, it shows this:

Black Bird Volume 12 at #6
Black Butler Volume 8 at #7

The article is currently listing both of these volumes at #6.

Never a bad thing to hear Sailor Moon is remaining at the top.

FUNimation knows Sailor Moon is popular and will sell. They said a while back that they were simply having trouble licensing it, likely due to the price point. That was almost a year ago, and FUNi may have it now, and announce it at one of the big conventions this year (this year is Sailor Moon's 20th Anniversary). The franchise has been licensed in other parts of the world. The main problem is that many distributors in these countries have been unable to get the go-ahead on redubs, even if the existing one is "missing" from the vaults. Apparently Toei's been very cheap, and the anime hasn't been relicensed in any country with a heavily edited dub (such as France, South Korea, and Hungary in addition to any English-speaking country) where a billingual release would be possible. On the other hand, the series has been dubbed into Hebrew for the first time, and Thailand and the Philippines have gotten redubs for whatever reason (probably because the old ones were missing, and they could redo it on the very cheap). We'll see how this plays out...

There's also Poland which got a new voice-over translation for it's TV broadcast.
